Karen keeps the place clean and cozy, provides organic eggs, and cares about how we’re doing. Antony shows up whenever we need him and can fix just about anything. Lucy, the staff member, is the friendliest and most amazing person! And I miss Pipi the cat so much. The location is great—15min walk to the CBD—and the environment is very safe. I feel so lucky to have spent such a valuable time at Chester St Backpackers!”

“I've been coming to this place for years, since it opened and love it for a quiet sit down. The cheese scones I genuinely rate as the best in New Zealand. Very unique, light and fluffy on the inside with a nice crust on the outside. Huge too.”

“Very thorough tour, with an awesome insight into the history of the Good George story. Lots of sampling opportunities and a explanations of the process that happens behind the scenes. We followed up with some good food and a pint at the finish. Such a cool thing to do with visitors to the Tron and locals alike. Highly recommend getting a group together and doing this!”

You get those treasured finds you don't get elsewhere, along with the quality well known brands too. They have a gorgeous selection of books, gifts, homeware, beauty. “I had a really positive experience here! I had heavily damaged bleach hair and wanted to go back to my natural colour! I had an awesome hair stylist “Jamie” who was lovely and easy to explain what I wanted! As they were busy finishing another client I had 2 young apprentices who were lovely! I didn’t catch one of the names but one of the girls was Izzy and she was lovely and chatty and did an excellent job listening to Jamie’s instructions and stayed after closing to get the job done with Jamie! My hair feels healthier and got lots of compliments! Thank you so much for giving me my confidence back! I will be back to re book with these lovely young up and coming hair stylists!”

“Took a small party out for my wife's birthday. The food was great, and served quickly after ordering. I particularly liked the kumara fries! Was a great recommendation from the owner. Service was exceptional, you can tell when someone actually cares about their patrons. It showed in the number of people inside the business. It was a rainy Sunday evening and the resteraunt was at capacity! There was live music and good vibes in abundance. Despite being busy the proprietor checked on us multiple times, and once the live band had finished and a few people had left a table cleared inside which he offered to us for a more pleasant experience. Thank you for the hard work, we will be back!”

“The Shelf is such a charming coffee shop! The decor is super cute, with unique and quirky items displayed on every shelf, giving it a cozy and fun vibe. They offer light snacks and some creative coffee options—like the sesame coffee, which I regret not trying. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, definitely a bit different from other coffee shops. It’s a lovely spot to hang out or even do some work on your laptop. As for the coffee itself, it’s good, but nothing extraordinary. Overall, it’s a great place to relax and enjoy the unique ambiance!”
