“Wonderfully clean and tidy motel in a great location. I was unsure about whether there would be a lot of traffic noise but it was amazingly quiet as the units are double glazed. Good kitchen facilities, and friendly staff. We would happily stay here whenever we are in Christchurch”
“This place has a very confident hotel and the room number was four. There were three beds and the shower was comfortable and hot shower was hot and comfy. I know the owner is a little bit strict about the hotel rules, but if you use it nicely he will say nothing so I love this hotel. There is a free wifi there too! I recommend this hotel to everyone!”
“I have been apart of two separate events that were held at Aaron Court in the last month. Such a great facility for small conferences and meetings. Linda and her team were super welcoming and the cafe is lovely also.”
“My wife and I, and our little dog, had a great 3 night stay in Napier. The dog feeder and water bowl in our room was a nice touch. Hotel modern, clean, comfortable and quiet and close to the places we wanted to access. Pleasant and helpful staff.”
“Both the owners and cleaning staff were polite and friendly. While I didn’t use the pool it was clean and looked like it was well maintained. Shower pressure was good and in our room the bathroom had plenty of space. Extra pillows were in the room and our towels were replaced regularly. Top of the list for future visits to Hastings.”
“Great place for all pharmacies dental amd physio needs”
“Thoroughly enjoyed my stay recently. Rooms were very comfortable and clean. Location is a good walk from the shops but super close to the beach and on the whole quite peaceful. Kitchen set up was ideal for my purposes. Parking was also fine. Would definitely recommend and stay again if I'm ever back in the area”
“Apartment was good, but a little dated. But the plus side, it had everything. For 9 nights it was a home away from home, with the residents being nice, the staff being amazing, and the facilities top notch, having a pool and gym. Laundry services in the apartment and the ability to cook simple items in your room. Located perfectly to make escaping Auckland city incredibly easy when you wish. Would definitely recommend.”
“A wonderful hotel, friendly and with very efficient staff. Well appointed and a great selection of rooms, and it is so so quiet at night.... And a bonus is the cafe, bar, restaurant off the lobby and too the gym. And a further bonus is its location across a small reserve to the Spark Arena, and a short stroll to Queen Street. And it comes with a carpark for guests downstairs!! AWESOME!!”
“Exceptional kebabs and always good service. Good meat to salad ratio”
“This place has absolutely amazing food. The staff were very efficient and the manager, Max, did an amazing job of catering to everyone’s needs and was very efficient with getting my food out quick. 100% recommend this place, amazing food quality, service and the place was very clean. Must try the lamb chawarma”
“The Edgerley Suites was literally my 'home away from home' for several months this year, and I loved it. I stayed full-time long-term for more than 5 months, and then was a part-time casual guest for about two months after that, as I went through a bit of a life transition. I did my research before I first checked in back in March, and looked at all the other comparable serviced apartment options in the Epsom / Newmarket area, and The Edgerley Suites was by far the best option. The location is excellent - walking distance to everything Broadway / Newmarket has to offer, including the massive Westfield Mall (biggest in NZ?) which has everything you could possibly need, and open late - not to mention many restaurant options in its famous "rooftop dining" space even after the shops are closed. And there's even a Post Office just at the end of the road - a rare thing these days, not to mention a dry cleaners and pretty much everything. Plus it's right between the motorway on- and off-ramps for very easy access to the motorways in all directions. For me, the convenience of just being able to walk in with a suitcase of clothes and everything was there ready to go was exactly what I needed. All units are fully furnished and equipped (including full size fridge/freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster, hair drier, iron and ironing board, cutlery and crockery and most of the cookware you'll need, etc.). Far better than a hotel and way cheaper (especially for long-term stays where the price gets cheaper). I'm surprised at the reviews suggesting it's overpriced - I found it was good value for what you get, compared to the other options in the area. I'm also surprised at the reviews that question the cleanliness - that wasn't my experience at all, and I stayed in several different apartments (or "rooms") during my 7 months - one for the long-term stay but several others for the shorter stints. The cleaners will come every day if you want, like a hotel, and I found they generally did a good job. The bedding and towels were always fresh and clean (and smelling slightly of bleach so you know they've been cleaned well), and they make the beds to a top hotel standard. In 7 months I never really had cause to complain, but if ever I found something that needed attention - the excellent, and friendly staff, always attended to it right away, I never had to ask twice. The front desk / reception team were lovely, and very accommodating. And as others have said the building itself and facilities are good - sure there's no pool or gym etc. (if there were the prices would be higher), but the secure parking was great, and there are two lifts not one like some places, I never saw them out of action, and the building is only about 7 years old so up to all the current standards and regulations. Yes, in one apartment there was an issue with the pressure regulator on the hot water cylinder (common in apartments), so they put me in another room while that was fixed, then next time I went into that room sure enough it was fixed. I know they get a lot of regular and repeat guests (and I wasn't the only long-term guest while I was there), so it can't be as bad as some reviews suggest? I would happily stay there again if the need arose - and have referred colleagues and clients to them. I suggest if put off by some of the negative reviews (remember, there's a lot of competition in the area, are all those reviews legitimate?), then contact them for an "inspection" of a couple of rooms before committing, they're happy to do that. If coming from out of town, I'm sure they'd arrange a "video walk around" to see almost as good as in person. Yes some rooms have a better outlook than others - like nice quiet serene bush, or north facing for the sun but looking towards the mall and motorway flyover - but just tell them your preference and they'll try to accommodate. (the motorway was never a problem, can't hear it thru the double glazing). I was happy there for several months - so I can't see how anybody wouldn't be for just a week or a weekend!”
“My favourite cafe on my stay. Lovely staff, especially the young English girl. They modified the open mozzarella omelette to my food preferences and it was totally scrumptious. Spinach, bacon and haloumi.”
“Perfect for an overnight transit stay. The price was reasonable for the room and shared bathroom. Loved the artwork outside, can't miss the building. The owner/manager was extremely helpful.”
“Just wonderful! Stayed here years ago when it was the C&Q Hotel, and it was comfortable, but oh my, what an amazing hotel it is now! The rooms are gorgeous, incredibly comfortable and well appointed, lovely temperature and so quiet! They must have installed some good sound proofing, because the location is a busy street with lots of foot traffic, but absolutely silent in my room. And the restaurant (Lola Rouge) is fantastic. The whole place feels very opulent and luxurious. Can't fault a single thing. Highly recommend.”
“Overall very nice, as advertised. Cleaning is performed regularly and thoroughly. Quite close to the motorway and windows are single glazed so the noise is quite noticeable. Rooms are nicely furnished, Rooms are a little dated. Enjoyed my stay overall!”
“Our first time here, absolutely blown away with how delicious these crepes are!!! I chose the cheese, mushrooms, potatoe and chive (usually with bacon) and asked for blue cheese instead - amazing!”
“Dumpling World is amazing! The dumplings are incredibly delicious, and the service is friendly. It's a must-try.”
“I had amazing stay here. Staff is very friendly and polite. The lady at the front desk is very kind and helpful. Great rooms, very clean and spacious. Children had good fun in the swimming pool.”
“Great place to live in and the landlord are very cooperative and understanding.”
“I've been coming here for years and their friendliness and quality have never wavered. It's a happy, cheerful little cafe with spectacular coffee. There are allergy friendly options and they are always happy to make changes to a meal so that my family and I can eat despite our food sensitivities.”
“Reading the reviews, I was worried about the service here, but it wasn't nearly as bad as people have posted. Only real concern is that I didn't realize we had to be there by 1900 for check in. Accidently got there right on time. We had the penthouse and the views were spectacular, not to mention the fully equipped kitchen, wrap around deck with glass doors that open up all the way to provide an unobstructed view. Each room and a bathroom so no arguments about space. Private parking is very convenient. In room laundry was great.”
Fish Town Takeaways keeps things classic fish‑and‑chips and focused on flavour. Pricing lines up with the offer. Takeaway travels well and holds its crunch. Combinations read bold but stay balanced.
“Mount Backpackers has exceptional staff, great rooms, and a nice environment. The thing that matters in hostels are the people, and when me and my friends arrived, we made several connections and met wonderful people. I want to thank everybody for the time in MT BP, and their amazing staff - especially Miles and Brad (G). If you want to make long lasting connections and friends, go there.”
“Great place. Big rooms good for a walk and close to restaurants. In house breakfast good also”
“Love this place and the host was awesome. He went above and beyond for us all (glen) thank so much”
“First time staying here, and was so happy with our stay. Two bedroom apartment was perfect for our stay, plenty of room to relax. Location is great, easy walk to Forsyth Barr through the University and close to lots of food options.”
“cool rooms, can smoke on the deck, flexible and accommodating staff. as far as 3 start places this is a 5 star 3 star”
“I had the pleasure of staying at the Chalet Backpackers for some months a few years ago. My stay left such an impression that I felt compelled to write this review. Met loads of awesome people and wow what an interesting and beautiful building! The owner Richard and administrator Chris were not only friendly and but also great to chat with. I felt thoroughly comfortable and entertained throughout my stay. All in all I couldn't recommend Chalet Backpackers more highly and on my next trip to Dunedin I'll surely spend some more time there :)”
