“We've been here twice in the last month, and had a great meal each time. The new owners are really friendly and nice, and the bar has a nice coast atmoshere. On the Halloween night they had a dress up session with prizes, and Nelly was perfect as an Angel. The food is all great. I highly recommend the pizzas and the steak. Both are excellent. If I had to make one improvement suggestion, it would be to perhaps get a a wider range of craft beers. But generally this is a great place that I highly recommend.”

Breakfast sausage full of flavor, hash brown golden and crunchy. Bacon cooked just right. Staff very friendly and welcoming. The Cafe had a nice warm and homely vibe. “Had the tanto sushi lunch that happens once a month for around $60+ pp. The experience was very authentic and was one of the best authentic sushi that i've had in NZ. Most of nz sushi is Americanised and sweet and although taste good I still prefer the just fish with rice. All the dish here had a lot of natural taste to it but taste very delicious. The sushi ingredients was fresh and I especially love the sweet potato tempura. The tempura reminds me of a place in Japan where they focused on the item being fried to bring out its naturalness and the batter was just a light batter that doesn't overwhelm whats inside. The sweet potato tempura was the best and had really nice texture. Overall very enjoyed the meal and experience and highly recommend for people to treat themselves and come here.”

“We ordered the Hot Nash burger, southern style and nashville hot boneless chicken and the beef birria loaded fries. Their nashville hot flavour is very spicy but has so much flavour. The southern style chicken is probably their best flavour with the perfect balance of spice and seasoning. Their chicken and chips are exceptionally crunchy and freshly made. As for the burger and loaded fries they were even better. Definitely order online prior to arrival as the wait time can be a bit long but worth it.”

“For my husband and I, as NZ Born South East Asians, it wasnt just a meal, it was like experiencing our heritage and identity thru food. My husband is a huge chatty foodie, plus he's only in recent years started to embrace his South East asian identity... He enjoyed speaking with Carlo about food, history and flavours. We could tell Carlo is extremely passionate about what he does and we found it very inspiring. My self too, I'm not much of a foodie, but I can attest every dish we had that night felt like familiarity... it was a really eye opening experience to 2 people who grew up in NZ without that connection to our parents' countries. I know for some it was just a restaurant, but for us, the ingredients, history and passion touched us personally. We will be sure to come back often and bring friends and family to experience Bar Magda and Carlo's wonderful food and hospitality again!”

“Excellent dumpling place to visit in Albany! This is by far better than the majority of places i’ve visited. In terms of food, they give a really generous portion with good filling and really good soup. The smaller buns and dumplings are also really really good compared to many other competitors. Perhaps one of the best places! The service is quite cool, uses a scan QR code to see menu type of service. Food is served at moderate speeds, not too slow or fast. Atmosphere is also quite nice, not too noisy and plenty of seats.”
