“We usually eat at the well known Chinese resto at New North rd but decided to give Tasty Bbq restaurant a try. We were not disappointed at all. Asian lady taking orders was really super friendly and well groomed. Place was a little bit small but the ambiance is all good. The place was well lit and images of the food on the wall with prices really helps with what to order. Price is a bit higher if going to be compared to the bbq Chinese resto on the ther side but taste and quantity is well worth it. Serving was really fast. Only negative we can think of is the shrimp on the vermicelli we order was kinda hard removing the skin but the taste was on the spot. We will definitely come back. Oh, and they have a reward system, they give you a stamp for every $35 spent and will get a $20 off on the 10th visit.”

“I had their Manly Burger and it was superb. Almost a meal in itself. Steak, bacon, beef pattie, beetroot, lettuce, egg, onion, ketchup and cheese on a toasted sesame seed bun. Superb!”

“Surprisingly authentic Chinese restaurant in the middle of Auckland CBD. The food is well prepared. It is apparent that they actually take the time to marinate the food for an adequate amount of time using the right seasoning before cooking, which yields an authentic and intense flavor. This is not the typical Chinese restaurant which just dump salty sauce on bland meat. This place is legit! Service was quick and friendly, makes one feel like going home for dinner. All good. I went there twice in three days and consistently failed to take pictures of the food before eating because it was just too yummy.”

“Hi having dinner have been several times and the food has been consistently good. The beef black bean with a bit of chilli thrown is excellent. The place is always busy and I recommend booking as it is small and just turning up may lead to disappointment. The staff are friendly and helpful.”

“The kopi was perfect. I ordered a cup of coffee with milk and a cup of coffee with sugar. After chatting with the girl who made the coffee for a while, I finally understood why it tasted so good. By the way, their lunch special, curry fish fillet rice, was delicious. It was very authentic Malaysian style, and the compound curry seasoning was great.”

“Lovely homestyle Northern Chinese food. The owner/cook is really warm and friendly. The cooking somehow has a very comforting, homelike feel- like you are at an aunty's house (aunty who is amazing at cooking). Served nice jasmine tea, and ordered spicy fried chicken cartilage (alright, a bit too overcooked but nice flavour), rice dish with tofu and pork and green pepper (the BEST) and mapo tofu. Some of the cheapest eats you'll find. Each dish was about $12.”

“Dined in for yum cha on a weekday. The service was so warm and hospitable, it felt like being welcomed into someone’s house. Very leisurely vibes with retiree locals and regulars rolling in and staying awhile. The radish cake was very tasty and dumplings were crammed with filling. Located on a main road but can be easily accessed via James Street, past the back of the Mobil petrol station.”

“The pork belly fat was translucent with crispy crackling, an absolute winning start. We were given a wee free sample by the owner followed by a bloody fantastic feed. We got pork, rice and a few burgers. The chicken burger wasn't just a frozen patty, it was full to the brim of beautiful chicken thigh cooked to perfection. It was onnn. What a bloody treat! The pork was perfect, chicken perfect and great customer service, very down to earth.”

“Have been here several times for lunch and dinner. The restaurant was pleasantly decorated. Sitting was comfortable. Service was good but you need to be able to speak Mandarin too. Otherwise just look at the menu and point to the dishes you want to order. It's not an obstruction for you to visit this place for a meal. The food was good. Service was friendly. All of us liked all the dishes that we have ordered. Will definitely going back for another meal.”

“Tried this out for my birthday because of the reviews. Did not disappoint. Beautiful dishes. Not all dishes were to my liking but I dined with family & everyone enjoyed their food. We spent around $500 & that's js because we bought heaps of plates for 9 of us & had heaps of leftovers. Loved the bbq pork & sweet taro balls? And also the little buns with condensed milk not sure what they were called. Duck was also good. Oh and the soft shell crab was to die for. So good. Too many other dishes to name but thoroughly enjoyed our meals & will definitely come back in the near future to try other dishes. Thank you”

“Ok i firstly need to admit, I'm not easy to please these days, as i find many places just lack in quality service and overall taste and flavour. I'm happy to report this place is really nice. Wonderful friendly service and excellent quality food. We had the twice braised beef, lamb ribs, pan seared beans, chips, money bags and beef dumplings. All dishes were just as they should be. The lamb didn't look that nice but the first bite changed all that with a lovely flame grilled flavor. We'll definitely be back for more.”
