The service and the ambience is exceptional and you can just feel the history oozing out from inside and outside of the lodge. Chef Jimmy is an absolute whiz in the kitchen and it was a true honour to sample several of his masterpieces. I'd also like to praise the exceptional efforts the lovely Lucy took to make me and my octogenarian mother feel at home. She was a true star and we really appreciated her assistance during our meal and garden tour. It was a gorgeous excursion and an experience we will warmly cherish forever. “Peter and Tessa are exceptional moteliers, they go out of their way to accommodate the needs of their guests. They were prompt and reliable with airport pick-ups and were also very obliging with dropping us off at a family event. The motel rooms were large, light and airy, and very well equipped. We appreciated the space of the one bedroom unit. The gardens are immaculate and very colourful. We’ll be back!”

“We took our furry baby in to this vet. He is a 56.5 kg massive Rottweiler, who doesn’t trust Veterans. He came with us from overseas and the procedure to be here in NZ was so hard and stressful for him. They treated him very well. They took care of him just like a normal friendly dog. They were not afraid of him and he got very professional treatment. We will be back because he has ears infection but now I am happy to work together with a professional doctors and nurses. I highly recommend this place if your pets not just a pet, but family members. The place is tidy and clean.”

“After a 9 hour flight and a night stay in Auckland, we were pleasantly surprised at our accommodations at Sumner Re Treat. We were greeted by Chris and she escorted us to our room. It was not only spotless, but very attractively decorated. Our accommodations came with all the necessary amenities, the decor was contemporary, and the location was excellent. There were numerous eateries within walking distance. Best of all, it was a short walk to the beach. I would definitely recommend Sumner Retreat if you plan on visiting Christchurch and want to get away from the City Centre.”

The communication was great, we were well looked after by a professional and very caring team of vet specialists, nurses and receptionists. But most importantly - our dog feels so much better now. Fi was warm, bubbly, and hilarious—she made us feel instantly comfortable and genuinely excited. Sarah was just as amazing, keeping everything running smoothly with her quick replies and eye for detail. The day itself was more perfect than we could’ve hoped for. The staff were lovely, the setting was stunning, and our guests couldn’t stop telling us how much they loved Fi (and her generous drink pours) and how beautiful the venue was. Being able to stay on-site the night before and after made everything so much easier, especially with setting up and packing down. I felt so calm on the day, knowing Fi and Sarah had everything under control. Everyone was blown away by the views, and our florals (done in-house by Katrin) were absolutely gorgeous. Waipuna was the perfect wedding venue for us—we couldn’t recommend it more!”
