“Had the most amazing once in a lifetime experience on this safari. We were booked on a weekend cruise but due to weather it was cancelled but it was super easy to rebook onto another day which went ahead and it was AMAZING!!! We were extremely lucky that day to see hundreds of dolphins in a feeding frenzy where many whales came to feed ( we saw about 10/11 whales that day!) they did say this wasn’t what they see all the time and we were very fortunate. The staff were just as excited as us and they were excellent along with the informative commentary, would 1000% go again and recommend to everyone as they also do it for conservation! This will be a trip I’ll never forget!”

“Lovely walk (though steep at times) through the bush, where you can find ALL the typical flora and fauna of Auckland's bush. The pool at the waterfall is great to cool down (literally) in summer. Pitty the track on the South side of the valley is closed due to the huge slip (you can see it on your way up). The road that takes to the entrance of the track is still restricted to residents, but it is an easy 1k walk from the Piha fire station.”

There are bathrooms on site, and more at the beach car park just a 5 minute walk away. Right next to some great hikes and the black sand beach!”

“Roberta Reserve is a hidden gem tucked away in Glendowie. It’s peaceful, open, and has such a calm vibe—perfect for families, dog walks, or just taking a moment to breathe. The reserve runs alongside the water with beautiful views, especially at sunrise or sunset. There’s a great little playground for kids, plenty of space to kick a ball around, and shady spots to relax under. It’s never too crowded, and the mix of native trees, birdlife, and open space makes it feel like a proper local retreat. Definitely one of those underrated neighbourhood spots you feel lucky to know about.”

Theo’s cottage was well appointed and equipped with everything we needed including treats :) we had the whole reserve to ourselves at night and early morning which was truly amazing. “We took our two mokopuna to Adrenaline Forest today. The eldest has been a couple of times and was confident after his briefing to get started. The younger was less so but certainly gave it his best. They both succeeded and had a great time. My thanks to the staff who supported my mokos in particular but were attentive to all. Clear safety instructions showing exactly how to use the equipment; and just the right encouragement when one of my boys got stuck. A reminder of the basics and gentle but firm guidance from the ground. All the reassurance that was needed and our moko carried on again. No doubt the boys will be back and their koro and I will be happy to accompany them. Ngā mihi ki a koutou...”
