    Whatipu Lodge and Campground

    ★★★★☆ 4.6
    Open

“Lovely hosts. Price was $25, not bad for the great location! Drive getting there was a little crazy but beautiful - narrow winding road, some drivers that need to slow down. There are bathrooms on site, and more at the beach car park just a 5 minute walk away. Right next to some great hikes and the black sand beach!”

    Dickey Flat DOC Campground

    ★★★★☆ 4.5
    Open

“Awesome camp spot. Key points to remember: - Get there early. It can get very busy, very quickly - Parking. There are a lot of people who use this carpark as a day park for the hikes and rides in the area. And the carpark is not big. So keep calm, and keep trying. - There is no "fresh water source" as such. It's water from the river. - You cannot camp next to you car. You will need to carry your gear. ( It's not too far. But something to remember) - There are a LOT of little pockets of campsites. From the carpark you cannot see them all, so keep looking!”

“We were very impressed with the facilities at Te Aroha campground. We stayed in a campervan on a non powered site. Appreciated the oak trees and the shade they provided on a hot summers day. The pool was fantastic, amazing views out to the mountain. We appreciated the hot spring/mineral hot tub after climbing up mt Te Aroha. Cannot fault this place, if you are looking for great value, great facilities look no further.”

“We have stayed here multiple times now and we love it every time. We’ve stayed on a powered site in a tent, in the A frames, and this holiday we stayed in a one bedroom cottage. So much is provided for you and the facilities are wonderful. We love the hosts and their families, they are always so lovely and accommodating. There is plenty to do and the surroundings never disappoint. Plus their wood fired pizza and icecream are great too. This is one of our favourite places to come and rewind!”

    TECT Park Freedom Camping

    ★★★★★ 4.8
    Open

“Amazing Freedom camping ground with fantastic facilities. For people staying in tents you can stay here for 2 nights in a row max. For Self Contained it’s 4. We arrived around 5pm and the site was very quiet, assuming the weather had hampered a lot of people’s camping adventures. Very clean and well maintained areas. Everyone here on the night we stayed were very respectful of each others space These grounds have a KiwiCamp pod where you can use a kiwiCash tag to make full use of the facilities, which include: Hot Showers, Laundry, cleaning sinks and electric cooking. You can use the toilets free of charge and there is a basic Sink and Out Tap on the side of the pod. There’s even picnic benches scattered around where you can pitch next too. And a few undercover benches too! 100% recommend this location, will hopefully get the chance to come back.”

The facilities were excellent and we had the privilege of staying in one of their newly renovated units. Thoroughly enjoyed relaxing in the thermal pools after a big day out exploring the area.”

“Staying in our motorhome we must say we were impressed. From the check ✅ in, with Kirsten, and the advice and help we received from the start. A beautiful Holiday Park with everything so clean and tidy. The playground too, is well thought out for childrens pleasure during their stay. Very handy to the beach and rolling surf, our two small dogs were in heaven when we all went down to the sand. It is fantastic that the dogs are allowed to be with us on holiday during the off season. The showers were nice and hot water aplenty. A friendly little bunny was not at all worried about two highly excited dogs because it sat just outside their wire fenced yard and teased them. In all a great place to stay and we will be back. Thank you. Laurie and Carol”

“Awesome place to take the kids! The playground has way more features than your average playground. It has some cool gym machines alongside the playground which are good for teenagers and under. Also has a flying fox which is safe for young kids to use - even by themselves. It would seem that the local community looks after the playground as it's always kept clean. There is little-to-none vandalism and it is free for anyone inside the community to use.”

    Camping Te Kauwhata

    ★★★★☆ 4.6
    Open

“This is a camping site for all vehicles, close to the Rugby club, maintained by the local domain. Te Kauwhata is only about an hour drive from Auckland airport. A 5 dollar donation is requested for, quite justifiable, as the area has toilets, sink and a dumping station besides a cafe. Though the area for camping is marked, vehicles were seen in parking lots other than member lots. Tents were also seen.”
