Around 1.5 hours from Happy Valley Road to the Hawkins Hill Trig Station, and about half a day for the return trip. The entire track is on natural, unpaved terrain, so proper hiking boots are highly recommended. Overall, it’s a beginner-friendly walk for anyone who enjoys hiking.
Well-maintain track with wide walkway. A little bit uphill but good for morning walk. We enjoy the voew of wellington city and also see the top of southern alps from the top of track. Make sure you bring enough water for walk! **thus track are join with red rock coastal walk, just walk down the hill approximately 5 km.

One of my favorite walks and so many tracks to choose from. Walk straight to the top for incredible views of the south island.
Pretty decent track. Good for a day walk. Wouldn't say it's anything overly special though
A grunty track which will reward you with breathtaking views of Wellington as you climb higher and higher. The surface is rugged and loose so footwear with decent grip is recommended. Would give 5 stars if it wasn't for all the garbage which is blown onto the track from the adjoining rubbish tip.
