“We were very unfortunate because our Alpine Crossing was cancelled due to strong and dangerous winds, but we alternatively did Tama Lakes track! Even the Tama Lakes track was out of this world so I couldn’t imagine, what Alpine Crossing would be!”
“Great extension to the existing park. Plenty of adventure and creativity equipment to entertain and keep the kids happy for hours. Also a central water feature to help cool down on those hot summers days. Plenty of areas to climb and swing with a junior and senior play area. Also, caters for some children activities for spacially challenged children. This means younger children can play more freely without getting hurt. Come and let the kids explore. New toilets have been added close to the park.”
“It’s such a beautiful park and an amazing community resource. Brilliant for dogs with a huge off lease area and free poo-bags. So many lovely mature trees for shade, and if you have kids there’s an excellent playground. Top spot”
“What a lovely park. Its quite large so plenty of room to throw a ball for your fur baby and not worry about neighbour's. Nice little stream running through it. Great for letting dogs off lead.”
“One of the best playgrounds in NZ, splash pad, great slides and climbing structures, variety of swings and lots for even little kids to do as well. Our kids from 2 - 12 could have spent the whole day here”
“It a bit different playground Nice area for picnic and to walk around”
“Stunning. We just happen to stumble across this beautiful bit of history on our E bikes. I'd highly recommend going out of your way to visit.”

“A very small little model railroad tucked up in the hills. Nice for Kids to see how steam engines work, even if they are 1/100 scale. Amazingly a one horsepower steam engine can pull a bunch of carriages with some very large people of size on them.”
“Awesome facilities for kids. Very good toilets. Go in the second gate with grass entrance if your freedom camping, Not the main gravel entrance. The council staff were their in the morning doing an amazing job keeping the place tidy and adding more playground.”
“The new park (post cyclone Gabrielle) opens April 6th 2024 and is accessed via Waipunga road, off SH5 Esk Valley. Turn into Waipunga road, cross the bridge then turn right into the first forestry road, and follow this to the carpark. No tracks remain in the Mill Block off SH2.”
“Great place to go with family and a picnic. Some play equipment, toilets tables and loads of grass to play games. Even a river to dip ya feet into”
“Very friendly reception on entry, we booked in for the newly built cabin room. Only $60 a night, the cabin is brand new with big screen flat TV, fridge, kettle, toaster and portable fan. The room is not massive but you get space back on the front deck. The share toilets, bathroom and kitchen are all new and modern. The owners seem keen to make constant improvements. Would recommend to friends.”
“Not a huge car park but plenty of spaces available. This is always quieter as people tend to park further up and have a shorter walk. Toilets and water refill station at the car park. Would recommend the red trail (giant circuit). Beautiful walk through redwoods, to the peak and across the saddle. All the trails are really well sign posted with coloured arrows. Just remember what colour trail you want and you will be sweet”
“did the blue trail. Amazing view, saw lots of Toi birds”
“Very nice park and also a very good rose garden in the park.”
“I ref c/d grade canoepolo at the pools. Great venue, staff great.”
“Excellent layout of the whole Park Island district at the current time. Though could go even better. How do I know this? Easy My family used to Mix farm the area with Pigs and cows from the late 50's till 1980. I grew up in this area and know the wildlife and terrain plus the history, even bfore the 1931 earthquake.”
“Beautiful location. Our little family enjoyed spending time here. The weather turned a bit towards end of our trip so we decided to stay in a cabin for one night. The cabin was clean & cosy. The owners very accommodating & lovely. Thank you for your warm hospitality!”
“Love this cute little playground.. fun things for most ages under 15. Nice trees and seats and not too crowded. Plus there are toilets onsite”
“So many fun things to do at the park now. Partly sheltered with a sunshade. Skate park and water play area. Large climbing frame and slide. The larger park area contains walking tracks, gym stations and disc golf. There is also a basketball court for hours of fun.”
“Watching the children take part in the Mitre 10 Tough Kids Challenge and what a great venue. Plenty of seating in the grandstand and facilities were clean and tidy.”
“Brilliant. We hired bikes and zoomed along the water front. Totally loved it.”
“Nothing better than hanging out at the swings with a group of friends at lunch. The playground is fairly well equipped, and the pond next to the library is lovely, featuring large trees and some ducks. As for the main field itself, it's well maintained, and a decent size. Perfect for a variety of sports, or a nice picnic.”
“Good sports park with BMX track at the back of it”
