This is a Waikato gem! On a sunny, summer day there is good shade as you walk through the native forest on well prepared and maintained paths and board walks. There is a good view from a platform at the summit and multiple paths of varying difficulty. The walks suit children too. Photos to follow...
The loop trail is peaceful and moderately easy though you will be climbing up half of the hike to the lookout tower. It is worth the excursion for bird watching and to see the diverse plant species. Plenty of parking and I assume rarely crowded.
If you like stairs, go up past the kauri grove. If you don't like stairs, this I'd not the place for you. Good God, my lungs are on fire
A magical place! I climb up carrying my toddler in my hiking carrier. There are quite a few steps but it's not difficult. Hour round trip with a snack and a break to soak in the 360 view up the top. Well worth it. 30 mins drive from central Hamilton. Will return again soon ❤️
Great loop walk - relatively short. The summit is worth the extra effort. Better if a sunny day.
Nice big parking area, there's a left and right tracks they both meet at the lookout tower so don't worry which 1 to take.
Area is in a bad state of repair and feels unloved with trash and rotten planks all over. Walk to summit is 20 minutes.
This Bush is one of the best located in Hamilton, New Zealand. What I like it about it covers dense forest, kiari grooves, native trees,nice mountain with an excellent step, picnic area, birds. It is simply reflect true nature supplemented with human inovation( step to climb up, sitting coach after some run).More importantly it is very close yo Hamilton city. I felt energetic after walking the hill.
