“Birdwoods Café is a gem—delightful food served fresh and full of flavour, paired with a wonderful environment to wander through. The gardens and gallery make it more than just a café stop, it’s a whole experience.”
“This was the best meal I've had at a restaurant in ages. Attentive and friendly service, pleasant surroundings. The food was fantastic, great value for the money. We enjoyed the gnocchi with oyster and lions mane mushrooms, as well as the perfectly cooked tarakihi fillet with asparagus, shredded fennel, wilted greens and salsa verde. A good wine list and beautiful Little City kombucha completed our meal. We will be back next time we're in this part of the country.”
“I LOVE Kindred Road! The cosiest cafe in the bay for sure. The coffee has stepped up its game and is superb not to mention the sweet treats my fave the apple crumble tart and cream! The girls in there are so friendly too!”
“I was shopping around looking for a bakery to do gluten free cakes for a future event and I came across a review for gluten free items at Frimley Bakery. WHAT? No way! I went there like 7 years ago and I could only get a $9 toastie (good but $9 in 2018). Today they have a whole shelf of GF items and there is savoury and sweet. I got a whole spice loaf for $7.50!!!! It is soft and yummmmmm!”
“We did a beer tasting and cider for the non beer drinkers. They are good on the gluten free drinks but I didn't eat. I was told the hot chips were pretty good. The others all got flights of beer, 5 beers form the tasting. I thoroughly enjoyed my cider and ginger beer but the alcoholic ginger beer unfortunately had gluten. We will be going back.”
“What a great find, one of those small local wineries that have really passionate staff and make you feel welcome. All the wines we tried we liked and we bought 6 bottles because they were all so good. Food was awesome too and they had some really great vegan options, the pizza was so good and the home made hummus to die for, which was a nice change. Highly recommend.”

“Just nipped in for lunch and wow, the craft beer selection here is incredible! I had a milk stout, my partner a ginger and mandarin – best drinks ever! The manager was lovely and so attentive, and the bar staff were all super helpful. The food was amazing too – the steak was cooked perfectly, so buttery and tender, it practically melted in your mouth! Can't wait to come back!”

“Excellent service, greeted and shown our seats as soon as we arrived. The staff were always on hand checking on us, never had to wait long to ask for another drink or anything else off the menu. The food was delicious. Large meals. Wanted to try the dessert but didn't have enough room in our bellies from the delicious food. Love the garlic loaf and the mocktails were yummy.”
“OMG this place deserves a gold ten-star rating. This large converted building has a warm rustic vibe & is complete with a wood-burning fire for those wet, chilly days. The staff are welcoming & the menu & cabinet selection is simply next level & at reasonable price points given the exceptional quality & variety on offer. I had the rosti stack & my fella had the sweet corn fritters with side salad. They did not disappoint - they tasted as good as they looked. The organic Havana coffee was also excellent. If you are in Hawkes Bay you simply must take a detour - it will be the best food you’ve tucked into in ages. This place beats anything we have frequented in years! There’s also a wide selection of giftware for children & adults.”
“I came here for the Wednesday $19 meals. The portions were great and the taste excellent. The lamb shank had rich gravy over it. The batter on the fish was light and crisp. “Best pies in Hastings HANDS DOWN! Without a word of a lie, these pies are amazing and a steal @ $5.50! Superb tasty fillings and the most delicious flaky, melt in your mouth pastry, I’ve tasted in Heretaunga. Great coffee at a very reasonable price too ($5.50 for XL Latte). I’ve also tried dine in - the Eggs Benedict was lovely and great value @$11.50. Super quick service too from this little local family owned/run business. My favourite!!!”
