“Kia ora. I went to Awa Ink through the recommendation of a friend and work colleague. I was born in Melbourne, Australia, and have lived full time in New Zealand since 1997. I have a number of old skool type tattoos which I had done during the late 1980s and early 1990s. The only tattoo that meant anything to me is my daughter's name on a ribbon and love heart type design. I really wanted something new that tells my story and truly means something to me. Tawhiri absolutely exceeded my expectations with a beautiful Tā moko telling my story along with my daughter's name and the name of my mokopuna. I requested the Southern Cross be included as I was born under this constellation and is featured on the Australian flag where I was born and the New Zealand flag where I have lived for close to 30 years. I also have a connection to Samoa through a very close friend which also features the Southern Cross on its flag. My overall experience with Tawhiri at Awa Ink absolutely exceeded my expectations. “OMG this place deserves a gold ten-star rating. This large converted building has a warm rustic vibe & is complete with a wood-burning fire for those wet, chilly days. The staff are welcoming & the menu & cabinet selection is simply next level & at reasonable price points given the exceptional quality & variety on offer. I had the rosti stack & my fella had the sweet corn fritters with side salad. They did not disappoint - they tasted as good as they looked. The organic Havana coffee was also excellent. If you are in Hawkes Bay you simply must take a detour - it will be the best food you’ve tucked into in ages. This place beats anything we have frequented in years! There’s also a wide selection of giftware for children & adults.”

“We had an excellent stay at Quality Inn Napier! From check-in to check-out, everything went smoothly. Staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. Room was spacious, clean, and tidy, with two comfortable queen beds. It was also very quiet, which gave us a restful and uninterrupted sleep each night. They kindly provided a portable double hot plate upon request, which was perfect for preparing our own meals. The toilet and bathroom were spotless—another big plus. Location is also a standout—convenient and walkable to Marine Parade, which made exploring Napier easy and enjoyable. Free parking was spacious and felt very safe, adding to the peace of mind during our stay. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would gladly stay here again. Highly recommended!”

“An eclectic, fun, clean, self-contained vacation stay ideally centrally located. Highly recommended. I visited Kim and Brian’s large “Shed” in the 23/24 summer. The many doors and windows gave great ventilation that made my nights very restful. The weather was fantastic - I never used heat or AC, but they were ready if needed. Plus a private courtyard with sitting area gave an even more spacious feel. Host Kim had stocked everything I could possibly need. I bought a few groceries at nearby PAK’nSAVE and was ready for many adventures on some of the world’s best cycle paths - 1 block away, where several beckoning beaches also happen to be. Sunsets, sunrises, and ships coming and going soothed me, along with the waves that can be heard from the very comfortable bed. I didn’t bother renting a car - I could walk and bike everywhere from the central Ahuriri location. The cooking facilities and clothes washer in the Shed also kept my costs down and made life easier. Kim has decorated and furnished the Shed with interesting stuff that she found, created or enhanced herself, including her own large format paintings that amazed me. I felt like I was in a place like no other, and was immediately comfortable. Plus Kim was sensitive to my unique desire for privacy and alone time. Even with the doors and windows wide open I was almost invisible to the world, coming and going at all hours as I please. The few neighbors I met on my.bike adventures were kind, compassionate, and not overly curious. The icing on the cake - this is an historic property. It is even mentioned in the heritage walk brochure available at the nearby I-site visitor center. How cool is that?! I hope to cone back often. I had a relaxing, inspiring, easy stay. Thank you Kim and Brian!”
