“The Waikato Museum in Hamilton is a captivating destination that offers a rich blend of art, history, and culture, making it an essential stop for anyone visiting the region. The museum showcases an impressive array of exhibitions, from local Māori history to contemporary art, providing insights into the diverse cultural tapestry of the Waikato area. One of the highlights is the museum's focus on Māori heritage, featuring artifacts and stories that celebrate the region's indigenous culture. The displays are thoughtfully curated, allowing visitors to engage with the history in a meaningful way. The interactive exhibits and hands-on activities are particularly enjoyable for families, making learning fun for all ages. In addition to its permanent collections, the museum frequently hosts temporary exhibitions, which adds to the excitement of returning for repeat visits. The layout is spacious and welcoming, with plenty of natural light enhancing the overall experience. The on-site café offers a pleasant spot to relax, with a menu that emphasizes local ingredients. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, always willing to provide insights into the exhibits or recommend nearby attractions. Overall, the Waikato Museum is a gem that beautifully reflects the spirit of the region. It’s well worth a visit, whether you’re a local or a tourist, as it provides a deeper understanding of the Waikato's cultural and historical significance.”

“Only part of the collection as they are earthquake strengthening the building but what they have is amazing. Super knowledgeable and friendly lady gave us a great talk & advice on what to see in town as well. Was amazing to learn what happened during the invasion of Waikato from a Maori perspective instead of the pakeha perspective we learned in school. Sobering and horrifying as well as inspirational at their courage and resilience.”

“Wonderful service from Rachel who helped us heaps with loads of information soon after we arrived in New Zealand for a three and half month tour in early November. Half way through we are still using some of the resources she gave us and enjoying this amazing country. This was the beginning of many stops at I Sites around New Zealand and without exception we have had marvelous service everywhere we stopped just like Rachel at our very first I Site. Much appreciated and thank you New Zealand I Sites.”

“What a gem! The staff is so kind and friendly, and it’s really clean. The location couldn’t be better, we enjoyed the peacefulness and the sunsets (amazing). Just outside of town with great views of the Waikato. The pool is a sweet treat, too! Bonus! They even had a space to plug in an EV! I hope more EV users find this lovely location. I’d stay here again.”

“We stayed overnight for a local event. It is in a good location for local eats, easy access to Hamilton city centre. While dated, everything was in order and clean. The couple who run it were friendly and helpful. Our son noted that it is in an excellent location to go to Waterworld, although we didn't go there on this trip.”

“Stayed 2 nights. I spent many nights in this hotel in the early 2000s. The character hasn't changed, it is old world delightful. The room was clean and well serviced. This was a nostalgic stay for me but I am really happy I chose the "La Grand". It is incredibly good value for money. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.”
