“If you're craving authentic Indian flavours in Christchurch, Saffron Spice in Hornby is the place I keep coming back to,and for good reason. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with the comforting aroma of spices and a team that treats you like family. The ambience is relaxed yet vibrant, perfect for a casual dinner or a celebratory feast. What sets Saffron Spice apart? Consistency. Their biryani is a personal favourite, fragrant, generous, and packed with flavour. And if you're into heat, the vindaloo delivers a satisfying kick without overpowering the dish. Service is always prompt and friendly, with staff happy to guide you through the menu or tweak spice levels to suit your taste. It’s the kind of place where you feel looked after, not just served. Whether I’m grabbing a quick takeaway or settling in for a slow meal with friends, Saffron Spice never disappoints. It’s my go-to spot in Hornby when I want food that’s bold, comforting, and unmistakably Indian.”
“Always good to find a good curry. Have been told to try it many a time and no regrets. Great food and service. Will definitely go again as being english always good to find a good curry even if its a bit out of the way”
“Amazing food, 100% recommended. I am choosy and these guys are awesome. Real, authentic Thai flavours; No weird chunks of carrot or celery, no gross frozen seafood mix, just real squid, prawns and mussels in the salads and tom yum We got the whole fish in curry sauce and it was excellent. Super good and large portions.”
“Twice we came and twice it was amazing! Serving halal asian food. We ate the tom yum noodles, mee goreng with chicken and sticky rice with fried chicken for lunch and dinner. Definitely recommend the Thai milk tea though, it's really special. Boss lady was so sweet, she gave out brownies to all the diners for free since it was Mother's day. Amazing service and food, definitely worth the stop in Christchurch.”
“I love the amazing selection of pies you have. Even Duck. It's up there with the Fairlie pie and the West Coast Pie. My 2 Fav pie places. The pastry was flaky, crisp and well cooked. The pies I tried actually had large pieces of meat. Not your normal lots of saucy gunk and token meat. If you were closer to where I lived I am sure I would visit more... Perhaps that is a good thing weight wise. Good luck in your venture and current location.”
“My wife and I went for dinner on our anniversary and I have to say, Mr. fussy here was very impressed. I had the Village Style Kleftiko and my wife had the Canterbury Lamb Platter, wow, I mean far out. The Kleftiko was absolutely stunning, so full of flavour and fall apart melt in your mouth chunks of lamb, we of course sampled each others and my wife's was stunning as well, she concurred. Of course we had to have dessert and this is what sets Costas apart from every other dinning experience I've ever had. You've just had a beautiful main and in our case an entre not to mention a couple of wines and you're beginning to feel a bit full but you'd like a dessert, something sweet to finish things off. Enter Costas mini desserts, what a brilliant idea, you don't have to pay the full price of a dessert and its just enough so you're not left with that I ate too much feeling. I had the Baklava Ice Cream and my wife had the Chocolate Mousse, both excellent. All in all, a fantastic experience, beautiful food, great atmosphere and good service. Highly recommend Costas, can't wait to go back.”
“Fantastic food, great pricing, the chilli oil is the best, top tip is to see if they are open before you venture out as the shop hours/days are a little random compared to usual restaurants, but well worth it..”
“The food was DELISH! Loved the different little tasters we got in our bento box’s, all so succulent and divine. We always stay at hotel 115 and I’ve never been here before, It’s good to know it’s nice and close and I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in Christchurch for work. Such a cute little place and the staff are lovely. The only thing id recommend, is they need The lights to be a little softer while dining, would make it a different vibe again if they were dimmed. But that’s isn’t a deal breaker of course haha!”
“The food here was so delicious I had to come back twice during my stay in Christchurch. I ordered the Grill Beef on Rice, along with a Chicken Teriyaki Bun (50 cents of the sales of the buns goes to the Arts Centre). I left feeling nice and full. Give this place a visit if you're the mood for some good Asian food at a good price.”

“Our food was very tasty and well portioned. They gave us some extras which were also delicious and the waiter was a very accommodating young lad. Music set the scene like a mediterranean elevator and was perfect to eat too. Hope all goes well with the new management. Will be back in the near future.”
“Absolutely glorious food! The team at No. 31 know what they're doing. I'm still dreaming about the duck entrees... The staff are lovely, the historical building is cosy, and the art displayed around is inspiring. Enjoy a delicious meal in a lovely atmosphere. Well worth a visit!”

“I was really impressed by rascals! Our server, Adam, was the perfect balance of present, attentive and invisible. He gave us some really great wine and cocktail recommendations and was generally very knowledgeable about all the food/drinks menus- he made us feel really welcome and relaxed! The food was fabulous, our highlights were definitely the venison tataki and the crab pani puri was easily one of the best dishes I've eaten in a very long time! All of the cocktails we had were also interesting, delicious and absolutely perfectly balanced. It was so good we went back for a bottle of wine and some patatas bravas the next day! Thanks to the team for making our night so special!”
