For my friend’s wedding, the 5-course meals were specially prepared and served at Origin Café. 100% pure vegan, exquisitely crafted and beautifully presented—an absolutely stunning experience.
The Origin caught our eye with its promising vegetarian menu and glowing reviews. We were immediately impressed by the lovely staff who made us feel right at home, even letting us choose our table and order when ready. Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended. Our food took 35 minutes to arrive, and when it did, the rice was only warm and the dish itself was extremely bland. The burger was small with a patty that was incredibly thin, and the hash browns were soggy, clearly needing more time to cook. The noodle dish had an okay flavour, but overall, it was a unanimous "no" from our group of three. While it might have been an off day in the kitchen, based on our experience, we won't be returning.
We went here only once, during our quest to try all 100% vegan spots in Christchurch, but definitely not because of the food or coffee quality. In fact, the breakfast we had, (Pancakes and Big Brekky) was absolutely delicious. The coffee was flawless, too! I wish we would have had more time to try the asian dishes, as well. Next time!:)
Today I went to the Origin after couple of months and had avocado toast. Unfortunately it was disappointing because the portion was pretty small for $22. I got 2 small and thin slices of bread. It wasn’t enough for one adult for sure. Normally you got big portion of lunch for $22 no kid’s size breakfast.
Really nice and chilled vegan cafe! We had the tofu, the fried rice & noodle soup with lassis! Everything was very delicious - only one comment -the rice was missing some flavour - they all came out relatively fast! Staff was friendly! We’ll be back :)
Great cafe with a lovely decor and friendly, engaged staff! Coffees are tasty and I loved the selection of non dairy milks for no added cost. The food is good, but on the small side for the price!
Good spot for Vegan food. Coffee was super delicious and staff were friendly. My order came at a good speed. Everything was fresh and cooked right. I was not disappointed!
My first visit to The Origin today and I loved it! The Air BnB host recommended it and it was the perfect place to spend a couple of leisurely hours before heading to the airport. The ambience is light, fresh and calm.. lovely music for a rainy Saturday morning :) What really made my experience wonderful was the warm and friendly welcome by Loreen. Top that off with a perfect almond flat white and a fresh, tasty vegan wrap.. 5 stars! I'll be telling my Christchurch friends to come here. Many thanks, Margi
