“Waterbank Crescent Playground is an absolute gem! It’s safe, spacious, and has so much to offer for all ages. The playground is incredible—perfect for both kids and adults to climb and play together. The stunning water feature kept the kids entertained for ages (don’t forget towels and togs!). The basketball courts were great, and all the kids were so polite and gentle with our baby, who kept running onto the court. The volleyball net with sand was a huge hit with the older kids, and the skate park was awesome for scooters. We attended my nephew’s 6th birthday picnic here, and it was ideal for everyone, from grandparents to babies. Highly recommend this place for families!”
“Tranquil and peaceful. Great trail to the top and then to the lava tubes. Pristine environment. I hope the visitors continue to respect and appreciate the value of this island in its natural habitat.”
“Very fun and versatile playground in large size. Flying fox, huge rope swing, mini trampoline, gym equips, rope climbing, sand pitch, kids water pumps and lake view etc. Always spend lots time after Costco visits - only thing is quite windy mostly”
“Beautiful place and nice walk to get there. Waterfall itself is not so big but all nature around is Very beautiful!”
“A beautiful beach if you are looking to see it with family and friends.”
“Great walk. Easy for my 7 year old to walk to the waterfall.”
“Beautiful area! Pristine environment and freshest air on Earth! Beautiful sites. New Zealand is so gorgeous!”
“The Lower Huia Dam is about a 40-minute drive from Auckland and makes a nice short trip into the Waitākere Ranges. From the carpark, it’s an easy walk to the reservoir area. The surroundings are peaceful, with farmland and hills nearby, and sometimes sheep grazing in the fields. The highlight is the bellmouth spillway — a rare circular overflow structure that looks like a giant vertical funnel. It’s quite impressive to see in person and not something you often come across in New Zealand. The dam top also gives good views of the lake and surrounding hills. It’s generally very quiet, and we hardly saw other visitors during our walk. On a rainy day, the atmosphere felt fresh and calm, and the whole place had a very tranquil vibe. Worth a stop if you’re exploring the west coast or the Waitākere Ranges.”
“Easy drive to get there with a park over property right across the road (if you have a self contained camper van etc).”
“Beautiful reserve that we came by accidentally. Two lovely waterfalls with a steep walk to/from and around 100 steps. Great picnic areas and a toilet”
“Excellent skatepark, large kids skate area. Plus, has a water feature, sand volleyball net, basketball and a nice playground. Large grass area behind for families, kids, or dogs.”
“Awesome experience. It’s great to walk around and see all the art and animals. Great views of the Kaipara as well. Keep an eye out for charities selling tickets.”
“An amazing walk and beautiful waterfall at the end of the trail. Walk probably takes about 1 hour return.”
“Such an incredible spot. If you need a drive away from Auckland, you should definitely add this to your list. The beach and the dunes are stunning and really makes your appreciate the world's natural beauty ✨️”
“Excellent place to walk with a lot of beautiful sights... friendly people, but not very challenging in terms of difficulty. Sunsets are amazing.”
“Lovely walk (though steep at times) through the bush, where you can find ALL the typical flora and fauna of Auckland's bush. The pool at the waterfall is great to cool down (literally) in summer. Pitty the track on the South side of the valley is closed due to the huge slip (you can see it on your way up). The road that takes to the entrance of the track is still restricted to residents, but it is an easy 1k walk from the Piha fire station.”
“Lovely hosts. Price was $25, not bad for the great location! Drive getting there was a little crazy but beautiful - narrow winding road, some drivers that need to slow down. There are bathrooms on site, and more at the beach car park just a 5 minute walk away. Right next to some great hikes and the black sand beach!”
“Great place to relax and picnic also do dip in water”
“We had a great time on all the games. I especially enjoyed the No Mans Land VR free-roam no cables team battle shooter!”
“Truly a hidden gem! Enjoyed our visit there. Highly recommend especially with kids, lots of things to see and very entertaining! Will come back 100%”
“French Bay is a very quiet and lovely beach in Auckland. My husband and I went there on 19/10/2023. We had a relaxing stroll there and enjoyed the magnificent views near French Bay Yacht Club. We highly recommend you to visit there if you live near there or drive past there for a walk.”

“This is a little secret but worth to go to. Take the walk from the city to these ruins... really lovely !! The photo below is a model sen at the Parry Jauri museum....”
“Beautiful setting and environment. Children play ground as well as walking tracks, one of which leads down to water front. Grounds gets very soggy on wet winters, this is so to the basketball court, paly ground, refer photos. Good summer picnic spot, quite and a hidden gem.”
“Pleasant place to visit. Nice walkways and canoe launch.”
“Beautiful place to just chill, sit and listen to the world go by...”
“Auckland Zoo is an easy standout. The staff and volunteers are genuinely friendly and make the whole place feel welcoming. The animals look well cared for and the habitats are clean and well maintained. Plenty to keep the kids entertained with lots of space to explore and learn. Also, the coffee at the front cafe is surprisingly good which is always a win. A smooth, enjoyable visit from start to finish. Great place for families. Parking was closed due to renovations, so we had to park near MOTAT. Nice walk through the park though.”
“The cleanest of the leisure centres I visited. Warm water for kids, renewed spa and sauna rooms. Plenty of changing rooms for family. The only con is there isn't any family bathroom, just one for wheelchair.”
“Sculpture and bush walks were great and the shop & cafe good. We were very impressed about whole experience. You can choose different routes and activities, we did all 3 paths 4km and 1,5h when stopping at times too.”
