Lovely reserve with picnic / BBQ area and toilets. Short walk to the Omeru waterfall but longer walk to the Waitanga waterfall which includes quite a few steps up and down. The only downfall is that the cinder track down to the falls from the car park can be quite steep and you can easily lose your footing so be very careful.

Omeru Reserve is located on the SH16, few kilometres from Kaukapakapa village on the way to Wellsford. It is easily accessible from the main road as well as easily doable within half an hour. This beautiful reserve is home to two main waterfalls and several smaller cascades. Waitangi Falls is particularly impressive, remaining tall and cascading even in the peak of summer, and feeding into a large waterhole. Although I saw people swimming there, I cannot confirm the water quality. Please be aware that the return journey involves climbing about twenty or so steep steps. Omeru Falls isn't very tall, but it's quite impressive during the winter when it's full of water. In the summer, however, it shrinks to a skeletal trickle. I've included photos from both seasons to show the difference. The reserve has several picnic benches to sit and relax, and a WC (flushing) toilet facility, and a wood-fired barbecue area with concrete tables and wooden logs to sit. Walking through this beautiful forest is a pleasure, with majestic tall trees standing out against the sky. As you stroll under the shady canopy, the air is filled with birdsong, creating a sense of peace and serenity.

Around 15mins walk with 2 small falls. Water seems not really clean but would be perfect for family picnic. There is also one tiny bbq area (wood or charcoal)

Beautiful reserve that we came by accidentally. Two lovely waterfalls with a steep walk to/from and around 100 steps. Great picnic areas and a toilet

We really enjoyed wandering around this reserve. Follow the little man made tracks off the main track to discover cool spots along the stream. Both waterfalls are easy to get to and worth the view.

Very picturesque and easy walk from the car park. There are chickens and sometimes sheep that frequent the car park that children enjoy interacting with. The trails are well maintained but can be a little muddy at times. Several water falls to walk to, beautiful walks in the trees. A few areas that are steep or include fairly long series of steps. Several areas with picnic tables.

You will discover two waterfall in this reserve. One waterfall is Omeru Falls which splits into two waterfalls. Not too high falls about 2 meter falls like a Cascade Falls. Wait, after you criss the first bridge, there is two paths, left and right. On the right track is Omeru Falls and on the left at the end of the track is Waitangi falls. Now there is stairs going down. Before there was a rope. We went after a heavy downpour which gave these waterfalls volumes of water. Very easy tracks. Some places the track is muddy but manageable. There are off tracks too but be careful of slips. There are picnic tables and a bbq area but you have to bring your own facilities to light your bbq. We went during winter so we don't know whether you would swim there or not. When we went they was no one so we had the whole reserve to ourselves. You will definitely enjoy this place. Hope this has been helpful. Oh, there are toilet facilities at the lower car park. When we went there was a boom gate blocking the lower carpark. Cheers
