Fantastic experience from the 5 yr old to Grandma. The animals, lizards, fish, eels, birds etc were easily viewed. Lots of amazing information available about each section of the zoo, we were viewing. The grandchildren thought it was a fantastic experience (5-10 years). Highlights were the giraffes, the meerkat colony, the different monkeys, the feeding of the gorilla family their enrichment and the security involved. The eels, the kaka and other endangered birds, the tiger, cheetahs, the lions. A great way to spend 3 hrs plus where our family were totally engaged.

Auckland Zoo is incredibly well-maintained and organizedβ€”easily the best place for a holiday outing with kids. Even on a busy day, the crowd management was excellent, and you could tell the animals were well-cared for and happy. A major highlight for us was the very close encounters with birds in their natural habitats; we enjoyed this immensely and the enclosures felt truly immersive. We also appreciated the zoo's strong effort to conserve native species and educate visitors. A quick update: The elephants have now been permanently relocated to Australia for their well-being, so you won't see them on your visit. However, the zoo plans to redevelop that area into an expanded Africa Safari Track for other African species, which will be exciting to see in the future. Pro Tip: There are plenty of food spots on-site, but I highly recommend bringing your own personal cutlery for a smoother dining experience!

Visiting Auckland Zoo was a truly positive and memorable experience. The zoo is beautifully designed, spacious, and easy to explore, with lush green surroundings that create a peaceful and immersive environment. The staff are friendly and highly knowledgeable, generously sharing their passion for animals and conservation. The variety of animals and birds, especially New Zealand’s unique wildlife, made the visit truly special. With its strong focus on education, animal welfare, and conservation, Auckland Zoo offers an experience that is both enjoyable and deeply meaningful. It is undoubtedly one of the best attractions in Auckland.

Auckland Zoo is a fantastic day out with truly amazing exhibits. The bird habitat is a standout. Beautifully designed and full of life. It feels like you’re stepping right into their world. The layout makes it easy to explore at your own pace, and it’s great that there are cafΓ©s in every section. Well worth a visit.

Auckland Zoo is an easy standout. The staff and volunteers are genuinely friendly and make the whole place feel welcoming. The animals look well cared for and the habitats are clean and well maintained. Plenty to keep the kids entertained with lots of space to explore and learn. Also, the coffee at the front cafe is surprisingly good which is always a win. A smooth, enjoyable visit from start to finish. Great place for families. Parking was closed due to renovations, so we had to park near MOTAT. Nice walk through the park though.

Awesome place. The animals seems very happy and well maintained. Also, the staff members are kind and always around if you need something. Of course, the weekends are crowded and it makes some animals get shy. I strongly recommend get a subscription if you are Auckland resident. Students, seniors, and kids have discount on the day pass. Library card works as a proof of residence.

Really enjoyed our visit. Was super busy (school holidays) but still got to see most of the animals. Zoo workers were friendly, a good amount of toilets and places to stop and sit. Plenty of play areas for kids and lots of space for them to roam around. We stopped at the lookout cafe which was lovely, friendly staff too. Signs were clear so we could find our way around quite easily. Maps however were all in Maori, no English so found that a bit hard, had to rely on the images, not sure if that was only temporary because we went during Matariki though. Was sad to not see the elephants but also glad to hear they've moved somewhere more suitable for them. It took us 4+ hours to get round the entire zoo. Also, highly recommend taking a toddler leash if you have little ones running around as you won't lose them. Pack water, snacks and extra clothes for your kids too as accidents happen often. It's a whole day trip!

It was pretty cloudy today but the zoo was fantastic. A few rain showers came thru and there were lots of nice places to shelter. Saw all the animals (even the kiwis!) except the otters which hid. The cafes were nicely located around but we brought our own food as too expensive for the family otherwise. Got a good entertainment club discount for entry too.

Really enjoyed my visit. The Zoo was very tidy, heaps of volunteers with lots of interesting information. It was really nice that staff and volunteers would stop and talk to you. My 2 year old had the best time. All the walking paths were wheelchair and pram friendly. Lots of seating areas for a picnic. Thank you very much

This is hands down the best zoo I have ever visited, and I’ve been to zoos on five continents. The animals are clearly loved and cared for, and efforts have been made to ensure that even elusive animals can be spotted if the viewer is patient. Example: the Night House for kiwis, which reverses day and night so that viewers can observe the nocturnal birds happily running around and hunting for food during the zoo’s daytime hours. The zoo is designed to engage all viewers as much as possible, particularly children, providing creative, educational, fun, and interactive experiences all through the facility. The habitats are simply beautiful, and the range of habitats, with appropriate climate and vegetation, is superb. We were also terribly impressed by the staff, both those employed by the zoo and the army of red-shirted volunteers, who simply make themselves available to help visitors and answer questions. Without exception, each person we encountered was warm, friendly, informative, and helpful. The animals, of course, are the stars of the show. Besides the kiwi, we especially loved the Tasmanian Devils, lions, orangutans, tigers, river otters, monkeys, and NZ birds besides the kiwis. We had a nice lunch on the deck at Tepuna Cafe and had watching the wild birds compete for crumbs. This was an unforgettable experience. We’d thought we’d spend about 3 hours there, and we actually stayed for 6. WOW.
