“Best chat I have had in NZ! We took chaat platter 2 and everything tasted authentic, full of flavor.”
“Food was amazing. And the portion was enough for two people. Really impressed with the food quality.”
“Oh my goodness THE BEST BYRIANI we have ever tasted the butter chicken was amazing not too rich and not too mention customer service! Highly recommend- support your local small business people. Thank you to the team at desi joint the food was SUPERB! A+++”
“Naina always provided best ‘ghar ka khana’ (home cooked food). It’s always top-notch ingredients and the taste is excellent! Prices are reasonable and it has consistently been great tasting food for the numerous times I have ordered. I will only be ordering from her as I know it will always be fantastic and healthy food unlike what you get elsewhere which is drenched in oil. Thanks Naina :-)”
“This divine chef catered my daughter’s 1st birthday! Food was delicious and absolutely bomb! Worth each penny! Thank you team! We will be back!”
“Holy!!!! A coast hidden gem!! Went for dinner, started with the cheese and garlic bread, must be home made dough because I could not get enough of it, then had the tarragon chicken, I’ve been dreaming about it ever since, absolutely mouth watering. staff were absolutely amazing, the smiles they give, you cannot help to smile. Decided to come back to try their breakfast today and what can’t they do, coffee 10/10 and I had the smashed avocado, would go back every morning if I could. If I could give it 10 stars I would!!!!”
“What an authentic taste of and from India! The sambar is so flavorful and best in New Zealand. The food served is prepared with fresh ingredients and you can feel it in the taste. Thank you RRK madras cafe for your warmth, friendly, professionaliam behavior and hospitality.”
“We’ve been coming to this restaurant with our family for over 23 years, and it has never disappointed. The food is always delicious, consistent, and full of flavour, and the service is warm every single time.”
“Popped in for some samosas and a beer. Fantastic service from a family owned business. Great food and great value prices.”
“The flavors here are absolutely incredible! I tried their signature curry, and my partner had the Butter Chicken—both dishes were bursting with flavor and made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. We’re already planning our next visit to explore more of their tempting menu. To top it all off, the customer service was outstanding—friendly, attentive, and perfectly timed. Highly recommend this place!”
“The food is delicious and truly reflects the rich flavors of Indian cuisine. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the service is excellent. The restaurant is clean and well-maintained, offering a comfortable dining experience.”
“Our dinner at Mumbaiwala was lovely. Great atmosphere and the food was delicious. The only reason that I gave 4 stars and not 5 for food was because they made my friends curry hot when she wanted mild, and my curry was mild when I wanted hot. We switched dishes as they were very busy! Our bill for 4 with alcohol was $292 but was $198 after our discount. Awesome. We had appetizer's and mains and everything was delicious! Highly recommend.”
“For me it's the best restaurant in the region, I always come back with my husband”
“Good spot for South Indian food. We tried Dosa and the kids ate idly, it was prepared fresh. The staff was very warm and helpful. We also drank coffee, which was not a traditional filter coffee but it was good. Good spot to enjoy Dosas.”
“Seriously good indian food the amount of spice they give you they don’t play and their chilli oil too makes it the hottest Indian restaurant the lamb curry is very flavourful and good with the butter naan and even the rice too has so much flavours”
“Overall, my family and I (4ppl) really enjoyed their food and service. All our dishes were super tasty and large portions. We ordered: Pav Bhaji, Lamb Dosa, & Amritsari Chole Kulche”
“Great little restaurant, with a great family team. Really enjoyed the food here after someone recommended this place to me. So far one of the top places I've been too for Indian street food dishes! Great pricing and service. See my photos for sizes of portions and menu. Therw is plenty off street parking incl a few spots right in front of the restaurant.”
“Lamb Rogan Josh and garlic naan can only be described as awesome. Asked for hot and it was, definitely got a sweat on and runny nose. Plenty of meat and sauce. Naan bread was full of garlic. Will definitely be back and will try the sit in next.”
“A random walk in to a tiny eatery for dinner; ended up with good food in a cozy setting. Love little cozy eateries; not everyone might - the space works best as a bar, but that doesnt do justice to how well the food turned out. Granted this is a first time experience, but the how good the food was forced me to write this review. We had the tikki chat, vegetarian chow mein, lasooni daal and garlic naan. The naan was thin and very well made, the chow mein was very well done too. The lasooni daal was rustic, reminded me of all the road trip dhabas back in India. It was some of the best daal I have had in Auckland in a very long time. Daals are simple dishes, which make it hard to hide mistakes behind a wall of spice and overwhelming flavour (and no it was not a wall of lasson either). Whoever cooked this knows his way around good north indian punjabi cooking. The tikki was very well made. I dont know if its kitchen made or off the shelf, but it crispy on the outside and well cooked inside. Make that a chat and it was a symphony of flavour. I think the daal and the tikki just put the chow mein (which really was good) in shade coz of how good it was. Our experience with the staff was good. A picky eater amongst us has requests on how each dish was to be cooked. They did it very well. The rice that came with the food was an iffy. But I think am placing a high standard on a small eatery and bar in Takapuna. There are 1 year old comments that put the place in shade. My experience did not match those comments. If you are keen on really good simple rustic north indian punjabi food that reminds you of home - this place may be worth it”
“Fantastic Indian takeout and very well priced. I’m not the right person to assess authenticity but everything was delicious and well seasoned. Goat biryani was exceptionally tender. Free garlic naan with orders over $35, and there was also complementary raita in the order too!”
“Had a fantastic experience here! The service was excellent—my order was ready shortly after I called, which was super convenient. I tried the lamb biryani, and even though I’m not usually a fan of lamb, it was genuinely delicious. The quality of the meal was impressive, especially for such a reasonable price. My dad, who’s very particular about his biryani, absolutely loved it too. The customer service stood out—the owner was incredibly kind and welcoming. Definitely planning to come back more often!”
“Punjabi kitchen Papatoetoe is simply amazing, our go to for delicious Punjabi dishes. We ordered momos and Kamal bhai and team made it perfectly, best chicken momos I’ve had in a long time. Thank you for bringing joy to us through your cooking skills. Highly recommend.”
“I have been here a couple of times now. And every time, these guys impress me with the quality of food they serve and their service. I was here with a couple of workmates a few weeks ago for lunch, to enjoy a meal from Western India. Their food is absolutely authentic and delicious. The staff was very friendly too. Their Parathas, Dhoklas and sweets are a must try especially Jalebis! The portions are great too and so is their take away packaging! I would highly recommend them! :) Cheers”
“The ambience could be better. But the food and the service were amazing! I forgot how good they were. And was humbly reminded when I went last night. My friend and I got the butter chicken, chicken fried rice, cheese and garlic naan, and normal galic naan. And all of them were top tier!”
“Our go to place for excellent food. Enjoyed the Biryani and Tandoori Chicken”
“-Very yummy food -Big portions -Reasonable prices -Prepared in 10 min -Easy parking (right by the store) -Nice and respectful staff -Lovely music (I was sitting there while my food got ready) I’ll definitely go back there! The photo is: Vegetable Korma with rice and naan bread Thank you :-)”
“I had an unforgettable experience at Bombay Kitchen in Auckland! I tried the Masala Chicken and Naan, and both were absolutely amazing—rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The spices were spot on, and the naan was fresh, soft, and delicious. But what made this visit truly special was the atmosphere. I sang a Hindi song for the kitchen staff, and they joined in! We all sang together and had such a great time—it felt like a real celebration of food, culture, and connection. Not only does Bombay Kitchen serve incredible Indian food, but they also have the kindest and most welcoming staff. If you’re looking for a place with amazing food and even better vibes, this is it! Highly recommended!”
“Indian restaurant in Ellerslie. A real gem of a restaurant. Can't fault any aspect of this place. The food was delicious, fresh and tasty and the service was very good. We were a party of 11 and all our meals were made within a reasonable time from ordering. The decor really adds to the experience. I look forward to going back when I'm in the country and in the mood for great quality Indian cuisine.”
“Just moved into the area and delighted to find a most excellent Indian just around the corner - an unusual finding in Auckland, which suffers from many bland, sugar laden and flavour-free curry houses. Shahi’s food is flavour-rich, perfectly proportioned and of excellent value. Loved the goat curry - rich, creamy and properly spicy as ordered. Service was prompt, friendly and engaging. As new locals Shahi will become our new local and we’ll definitely be back. Yum!!!”
“Amazing, such a cosy, clean, nice place - great for the whole family. Good friendly service, nice n quick. Amazing food, so authentic, great tastes, everyone enjoyed - 12 of us. Highly recommended. Plenty of parking too”
