Really great food, they always make us an unparalleled chilli cheese garlic naan, nice to eat in a relaxed non-pretentious environment, my partner and I love it!
Friendly service and delicious food. I have recently rediscovered this little Ponosnby gem. I ordered the chicken cashew (mild) and was really impressed. The new owners make a much better curry than the previous owners and I highly recommend the food. I have been back a few times and each time I have been happy.
I'm a local and a regular and love the Tadka Dhal and Prawn Malabari . Saag Panir is a favourite too. My kids love the butter chicken. The guys are always lovely and super quick for a pick up. Shahi is the best Indian food in NZ.
Once a curry institution, Shahi is now a shadow of its former self. The curries are tired, sweet and smell and taste reheated. Naan are over-sweet and look like they came from a plastic bag. Sad.
Our recent visit to Shahi Herne Bay was disappointing, and we're not sure if we'll return. We used to love the food here, but this time it fell short. The butter chicken was too sour and didn't taste like authentic butter chicken. The rice was dry and lacked moisture. The lassi, was not sweet and didn't have the expected lassi flavor. It was an overall letdown compared to our previous experiences.
First time visiting this restaurant and we were blown away! Highly recommend the chefs special goat curry but we enjoyed all the food. Best indian restaurant. Great service, the couple working are very helpful and friendly. Will be our regular go to!
Just grabbed a small Lamb Rogan Josh to take away... and it was very good! Delicious aromatic flavours and the lean meat was cooked nicely. It was also a good portion size for a small female like me, but you'll definitely want a large if you are a hungry guy or if you want leftovers. It took around half an hour from the time I phone ordered, and I was only waiting for around 3mins when I came to pick up at the informed time. Overall I enjoyed the meal and am looking forward to trying out more at this little local spot :)
Just moved into the area and delighted to find a most excellent Indian just around the corner - an unusual finding in Auckland, which suffers from many bland, sugar laden and flavour-free curry houses. Shahi’s food is flavour-rich, perfectly proportioned and of excellent value. Loved the goat curry - rich, creamy and properly spicy as ordered. Service was prompt, friendly and engaging. As new locals Shahi will become our new local and we’ll definitely be back. Yum!!!
