“Enjoyed very much our stay at this friendly hotel. The chef was amazing to prepare us vegan dinner and a hearty breakfast during our stay. The salad dressing at dinner was lovely. Definitely would love to come back again! Will see you again, Chef!”

    Garden Motel Dunedin

“This small motel was perfect for our needs. The staff were so kind and helpful. We couldn't arrive in reception hours but they were super okay with sorting it. The room was neat and had everything we needed. Heater was wonderful and we could adjust temperature easily. It was the cleanest basic motel we have stayed in when we have visited Dunedin. WiFi was a bit on and off in our room. Location was excellent. An easy flat walk into main area of town if you like to walk or a quick drive. Dairy's close. Off street parking, some spots better than others. Loved the kitchenette. (Airfryer was great). Everything you need. Laundry available. Wished we could of stayed longer. Thanks for the lovely stay.”

    Highland House Boutique Hotel

“Historical building, nicely renovated and decorated. We got an early check-in, a room upgrade and a late check-out (as we traveled for the Dunedin marathon event and needed more time to get ready after the race). Staff was friendly and our room had everything we needed (and definitely more character than your usual hotel room). Close to the city centre, botanical gardens and a supermarket, also to quite a few eateries and take away places, all within walking distance (or a few minutes by car). Overall - great value for money.”

“These apartments are in central Dunedin and the location is fantastic. Walking distance to shopping on George St and all the fantastic architecture in the octagon. There is some off street parking but the owner will reimburse for any parking costs incurred if there isn't a space reserved for your room. The apartments are spacious with high ceilings and lots of big windows. I've stayed twice and would happily stay again.”

    Scenic Hotel Southern Cross

    ★★★★☆ 4.2

“I stayed here for 13 nights in a Superior King Room on the 4th floor. Overall, it was a very comfortable and pleasant stay. The location is excellent — right in the heart of the city and just a short walk from The Octagon. Many major attractions, restaurants, pubs, banks, and a Woolworths are nearby. There are also around five Indian restaurants within walking distance, so it’s easy to find Indian lunch or dinner options. The room was spacious, quiet, and carpeted, with a king-size bed, two chairs, a table, and a bathroom with a bathtub. There was also a small kitchen area with a kettle, refrigerator, a few cutlery items, and complimentary tea, coffee, cookies, and milk provided daily. The bed was comfortable, and there was plenty of wardrobe space. Each room had an iron, ironing board, hair dryer, alarm clock, and a TV with around 22 channels (no Netflix or Amazon Prime). A heating pump and a separate fan were also available, which was very convenient. The room was cleaned daily, and towels were changed on alternate days. Breakfast was tasty and started at 6:30 am on weekdays and 7:00 am on weekends. I am vegetarian and found a few good vegetarian options. The breakfast spread included juices, breads, tea, coffee, hash browns, noodles, milk, curd, cornflakes, pancakes, muffins, croissants, and many more items. Breakfast was included in my booking; otherwise, it costs around $30 per person. I didn’t opt for lunch or dinner, but room service is available if needed. • Wi-Fi is free in all rooms and has good speed. • Laundry facilities are available; it costs $5 per cloth for washing and drying. • Elevator is available and works smoothly. • Car parking is available at $25 per night, but you can also find free parking nearby. • Check-in and check-out were smooth, quick, and hassle-free. The staff were very friendly, helpful, and available 24/7. They were always ready to assist with any request. A wonderful stay overall — perfect location, comfortable rooms, tasty breakfast, and great service. Highly recommended for families and anyone visiting Dunedin for a short or long stay.”

“Excellent motel and my new first choice of somewhere to stay in Dunedin. The room was clean, stylish and warm. It's a pleasant walk through a nature reserve to the city and the views from the neighbourhood are spectacular. The staff were friendly and went out of their way to help. I would absolutely stay here again.”

Nothing was a problem, Lee was very kind, caring and thoughtful, going above and beyond. The location is great and I would highly recommend this place to anyone. “I had the pleasure of staying at the Chalet Backpackers for some months a few years ago. My stay left such an impression that I felt compelled to write this review. Met loads of awesome people and wow what an interesting and beautiful building! The owner Richard and administrator Chris were not only friendly and but also great to chat with. I felt thoroughly comfortable and entertained throughout my stay. All in all I couldn't recommend Chalet Backpackers more highly and on my next trip to Dunedin I'll surely spend some more time there :)”

    Dunedin Holiday Park and Motels

“We had a powered site for two nights (early October 2025). The bathrooms are very clean & tidy (plenty of toilets and showers). And there's a large kitchen, with a seated dining area. The hosts are very nice. Oh, the location is just behind the beach. And the caravan park is perfectly located = short 8min drive to the city (easiest parking for motorhomes is directly across the train tracks, from the Dunedin train station). It's a quick walk up over the tracks to access the train station AND the city centre. And 30min north-east of the caravan park is the Albatross Centre (worth going to). There's a "coastal route" and a "plateau route" = both are the MOST scenic drives you shall ever do in your life.”

“1000% My new favourite place to eat... Staff is very friendly and the Kim Jong Un colouring pictures were very satisfying to use. Loved the atmosphere/aesthetic of the place. Not many restaurants go for a "Decrepit Dungeon" sort of feel but I like the change :) Another awesome feature which separates the experience of Chen's Food Court from other boring restaurants is the wide variety of meals. My personal favourite meal is the "Mystery Meat", though there are also options for vegetarians such as "Fresh Moss" or "Black Mold". Overall, definitely a 10/10 dining experience and you can bet your bottom dollar that I will be eating here again!”

“This is an over-due review; because, we did not find out about B&B Homestay online. We were given their contact information from a friend of theirs who ran a local hotel. We came into town the night of the Pink concert, and there were no rooms available in the town. We called, and Brenda hastily got our accommodations ready while we had a lovely dinner at a restaurant she recommended. Brenda and Bill, thank you for coming to our rescue, providing a comfortable room, a delicious breakfast, and a relaxing soak in your hottub at sunset. It is one of our favorite stories from our trip. Your friends in Minnesota, Marcia and Brian Johnson”
