Overall good hostel for a night. The living room is a bit dark to my liking, I wouldnβt want to stay there too long, but everything was clean (kitchen, bathroom, bedroom) I was a the female dorm, the beds are super comfy - that was amazing. I had a great sleep.

Honestly, Uptown Backpackers might just be famous for its people - and what a crew! We arrived and somehow immediately got invited to Diegoβs farewell dinner (heβd spent a year in the hostel), with free food and free drinks. Already off to a legendary start. The vibe that evening was unreal. Everyone was friendly, funny, and just genuinely enjoying the moment. I donβt even know if itβs the hostel itself or the magic the people bring, but it was hands down the best night weβve had in New Zealand so far. Huge shoutout to the atmosphere, the laughs, and Diegoβs farewell feast - this place will definitely stay in my memory. Even if itβs just because of the people, Uptown Backpackers knows how to set the stage for an unforgettable night.

Amazing staff, really warm and helpful. They helped me with my bags and showed me around. The common space is huge and very comfortable. I arrived two hours early and they still managed to get me checked in. Great stay!

Very nice receptionist who allowed me to check in before the norm check in time and specifically did up the bed to accommodate me. Cheers for that. Nicely done up bathroom which is impressive. So far the only bathroom with heating rod to keep the hand towels dry. Rooms are spacious w a mobile heater which warm up the room. Lots of storage beneath, on the side and a panel inside the pod to keep some necessities. Extra storage near the receptionist upon request. Super impressed by the Japanese receptionist who even help carry luggage to the room.

Stay here total for a month. Really love it. The exterior of the backpackers maybe not that pretty but the bed are pretty cozy. And the location are amazing really suitable for backpacker who travel by bus. The Intercity bus stop and countdown supermarket just 3min by walk and it just right in the middle of the heart of Dunedin. Ben are super friendly and nice person same like others worker in the this hostel. β€οΈ Highly recommend this place and hope I will be back in future Cheers

I stayed for nearly two months at this place and I have to say, it was a great experience! As an international student on a budget, I had to be frugal and so I was a bit skeptical when I first booked this place but I was relieved after I arrived. From the moment I arrived, the owner and staff went above and beyond to make my stay as comfortable and accommodating as possible (also made nice friends with the staff and regret that I didn't get to know each of them longer). The place is in Central Dunedin so its very accessible n very close to the bus stand, shopping mall, retail grocery marts like countdown, cafes, restaurants etc. The room was spacious and clean, I also appreciated the thoughtful amenities, such as the complimentary coffee and tea station, the kitchen, air fryer, fridge, and the high-speed internet access. One of the things that really impressed me about this hotel was the level of service. The staff was always friendly, polite, helpful, and they were quick to respond to any requests or questions that I had. Whether it was helping me with my bookings, accommodating special requests or recommending a great restaurant nearby, they were always happy to help. Overall, I would highly recommend Uptown to anyone (especially, international students who still haven't found an apartment when they arrive here. however, the uni is about 2km away n takes 15m to reach by walk at a brisk pace) who's looking for a comfortable, reasonably priced (NZ is expensive and this place had the best rates I could find in Dunedin) and convenient place to stay. The staff, amenities, and facilities were all great and I'm grateful especially, to the owner n staff: Ben, Carmen, Phil and Sam. Thanks guys. Jonathan

The room was fine just could use a bit of paint around the windows. Bathroom facilities were clean. The place could use some signs on the doors to find room numbers and even the kitchen from the main lounge. Pleasant atmosphere.

Staff was wonderful. I ended up staying a day more. They were very kind and helpful. It was also very clean. Perfect location. I missed the oven in the kitchen and the possibility to wash clothes. The rooms were not so bad except that there were no lockers for two guests and the beds were squeaky and not very comfortable. The hostel is also in the center so it can be noisy. I enjoyed my stay here though. That's why I stayed longer.
