“Enjoyed very much our stay at this friendly hotel. The chef was amazing to prepare us vegan dinner and a hearty breakfast during our stay. The salad dressing at dinner was lovely. Definitely would love to come back again! Will see you again, Chef!”
“I stayed here for 13 nights in a Superior King Room on the 4th floor. Overall, it was a very comfortable and pleasant stay. The location is excellent — right in the heart of the city and just a short walk from The Octagon. Many major attractions, restaurants, pubs, banks, and a Woolworths are nearby. There are also around five Indian restaurants within walking distance, so it’s easy to find Indian lunch or dinner options. The room was spacious, quiet, and carpeted, with a king-size bed, two chairs, a table, and a bathroom with a bathtub. There was also a small kitchen area with a kettle, refrigerator, a few cutlery items, and complimentary tea, coffee, cookies, and milk provided daily. The bed was comfortable, and there was plenty of wardrobe space. Each room had an iron, ironing board, hair dryer, alarm clock, and a TV with around 22 channels (no Netflix or Amazon Prime). A heating pump and a separate fan were also available, which was very convenient. The room was cleaned daily, and towels were changed on alternate days. Breakfast was tasty and started at 6:30 am on weekdays and 7:00 am on weekends. I am vegetarian and found a few good vegetarian options. The breakfast spread included juices, breads, tea, coffee, hash browns, noodles, milk, curd, cornflakes, pancakes, muffins, croissants, and many more items. Breakfast was included in my booking; otherwise, it costs around $30 per person. I didn’t opt for lunch or dinner, but room service is available if needed. • Wi-Fi is free in all rooms and has good speed. • Laundry facilities are available; it costs $5 per cloth for washing and drying. • Elevator is available and works smoothly. • Car parking is available at $25 per night, but you can also find free parking nearby. • Check-in and check-out were smooth, quick, and hassle-free. The staff were very friendly, helpful, and available 24/7. They were always ready to assist with any request. A wonderful stay overall — perfect location, comfortable rooms, tasty breakfast, and great service. Highly recommended for families and anyone visiting Dunedin for a short or long stay.”
“Always great to stay here as a family - reasonably priced rooms always clean, well presented, meet all our needs as well as being close to town. While facilities are a bit dated, it ticks most of the boxes for us. The only negative for us is lack of parking - caused frustration each night we stayed. Staff ALWAYS exceptionally friendly and accomodating, great to have breakfast each day and even Foxy got looked after by the very friendly and obviously sweet cleaning staff member that attended our room today - we’ve stayed four times in the last two years and will always come back :)”
“The Harbour Rugby Team call this pub their Local”
“We read a review somewhere when looking for a beer and it said Jones is the best publican ever. He is the man. Had a great couple of pints and chat, discussing all things music/flying nun/family heritage/brewery history. Thanks for your time today and keep the music going!”
“Early Stay Feedback – Distinction Hotel Dunedin We have just arrived in Dunedin on an early morning flight, and our first impression of Distinction Hotel has been exceptional thanks to Emma at the front desk. Emma provided outstanding service from the moment we walked in. She warmly organised secure storage for our bags, arranged for them to be delivered to our room later, and offered thoughtful recommendations on places to explore while we waited. She even phoned us personally as soon as our room was ready all done with genuine kindness, professionalism, and a welcoming smile. If this is the beginning of our stay, we’re already envisioning an amazing experience ahead. Emma is an absolute credit to your team.”
Careys Bay Historic Hotel favours a classic fish-and-chips line-up with clear, tidy flavours. Value feels fair for the spread. Easy to carry out for a simple night in. Portions are generous yet well judged.
“When we walked in everyone knew we were tourists, but they were all do welcoming. The barman helped us find a beer that we liked. Everyone was fantastic. We even brought a t-shirt. In Dog We Trust”

“Not sure if they have food. I just got some Japanese from across the road and ate it in the garden bar. This pub has been in the news a bit. It is what it is man. Good pokies. Tradies in bare feet drinking Steiny big bots from the bottle. Old drunks, the whole nine yards. Think Once Were Warriors, but whiter.”
“Historical building, nicely renovated and decorated. We got an early check-in, a room upgrade and a late check-out (as we traveled for the Dunedin marathon event and needed more time to get ready after the race). Staff was friendly and our room had everything we needed (and definitely more character than your usual hotel room). Close to the city centre, botanical gardens and a supermarket, also to quite a few eateries and take away places, all within walking distance (or a few minutes by car). Overall - great value for money.”
“Our meals were generously portioned and cooked to absolute perfection! The chef could teach a masterclass in cooking breadcrumbs! Our table were elated to receive such great, fast service and meals that were far beyond their price point in quality, flavour and portion! We will be back as often as possible!”

“Comfortable rooms, beds, and pillows. The staff are really helpful. We'd happily stay there again.”
“Stayed here two nights this trip! Rooms are good. Service at the pub is great too!!”
“Excellent staff great atmosphere, nice place to have an ale”
“The Law Courts Hotel is a lucky find for us and anyone else who wants to camp in the middle of Dunedin. Perfectly located a couple of hundred metres from the Octagonal. Surrounded by any number of great cafes, restaurants, shopping, museums and event centres. An added bonus is the pub style restaurant which is part of the bar downstairs. Well priced (we were initially attracted by a special deal) the lower levels have just undergone a major renovation with updates planned for rooms ahead. Due this, I rate the room as a 4 star with a dated shower but superking bed was comfortable and new. Establishment well managed and maintained. Highly recommended. This is our new favourite downtown overnight stop. P”

On the plate at Parcels Restaurant, the idea is grill-focused and well executed. Ribs and steaks come seasoned and tender. Team members keep things friendly and on task. Takeaway holds up well on the drive.
