What really stood out to me was the personal service, something that's hard to find these days. Food and drinks 10/10. Pizza is a must try! “In the 25 years I've lived in New Zealand, I've never experienced hotel service like yesterday. When I requested a room change because the room was a little uncomfortable, the hotel manager was happy to accommodate me. They replaced our room and also split the single bad and adjusted it to the twin bed. All the staff were friendly, the staff serving breakfast in the restaurant were very friendly, and the food was delicious. Also, when I slept at the hotel last night, it was so comfortable and quiet. Thank you to all the hotel staff.”

“Do not stop here if you want fancy, price reflects this. Do stop here if you want a fantastic historic building, quirky and full of character! Plenty of parking out front or beside the hotel. Free WiFi which works! Clean rooms, heaters, ample space in the rooms. Personally I loved the old tiled bathroom, reminds me of schools in the 80/90s or from the shining..... you decide. Looks like it's recently been carpeted throughout. Currently lots of renovation ongoing, hopefully restoring it's beauty. Shops all around for evening meals, breakfasts, even a laundrette next door. Kettle and fridge in the room, even with hot choc sachets! There is a shared kitchen on the landing if you chose to cook. We had the studio/family room. Double bed and two singles, seating area and TV. For a budget stop, highly recommended!”
