The Distinction Hotel Dunedin was a fantastic experience, courteous and helpful staff, elegant, spacious rooms and a great central location. Originally we were booked for two nights but we extended to three as we were enjoying ourselves so much. The buffet breakfast was all you could ask for. Great value for money. Mike & Meg Spijkerbosh
Early Stay Feedback – Distinction Hotel Dunedin We have just arrived in Dunedin on an early morning flight, and our first impression of Distinction Hotel has been exceptional thanks to Emma at the front desk. Emma provided outstanding service from the moment we walked in. She warmly organised secure storage for our bags, arranged for them to be delivered to our room later, and offered thoughtful recommendations on places to explore while we waited. She even phoned us personally as soon as our room was ready all done with genuine kindness, professionalism, and a welcoming smile. If this is the beginning of our stay, we’re already envisioning an amazing experience ahead. Emma is an absolute credit to your team.
The room had limited wardrobe space which is fine for business use but people on holiday need more. Breakfast was very good. Although two mornings we had a waitress who was not comfortable with clearing tables, but she won't be there by the time you read this! The hotel was very central and all the staff friendly and helpful.
The staff were incredibly helpful, and the rooms were exceptional. Other hotel owners, take note — I appreciate having a proper vanity for my wash bag, good laundry and tea facilities, a spot for my travel bag, a spacious wardrobe, comfortable seating, and a decent desk to work from.
Three day work trip. Great two night here, very comfortable and very peaceful. Large, spacious room. Hotel has a good small gym too. Nice touches like free cookies and small chocolates, and nice big tv too.
Staying at the Distinction hotel was a pleasure - and had a lovely experience with all staff relating to the hotel itself. When booking I called to confirm I would get a room with a view and on arrival couldn’t have been happier. Checking in staff were very hospitable and the rooms superb. Sadly it’s restaurant has let it down. The staff was rude, and sloppy in their service. The food was ok but not great. For Breakfast I wandered down to the restaurant and looked over the menu- one of the wait staff said for me to “just wait” they came over and seated me, I ordered 2 eggs and gluten free toast- it’s literally how it came out - no butter, garnish - micro greens, nothing. It was sloped down in front of me. I ate and left- staff checking my bill was pleasant however. I dined with my mother for dinner- service was terrible- we were told to wait a lot when trying to order or get a glass of wine. They got the order wrong but noticed it and fixed it straight away but loudly. My mothers steak was chewy, really chewy. I ordered the lamb shank which was lovely and paired nicely with the salsa verde, my potatoes were however dry, undercooked and tasteless. Desert was divine. Based on our experience we decided to not have our final breakfast there but go somewhere else. In summary I would absolutely stay in the hotel again and recommend it highly. I wouldn’t look to dine in the restaurant again.
Probably the best hotel you can get in Dunedin, rooms are spacious and well appointed and VERY clean! Bedding and sheets are of good quality, and it even have washing machine and dryers in each room! The on,y downside is the breakfast is a bit average, good variety but the cooking could be a bit better.
I have been traveling for over 15 years and stayed at many Hotels both here in NZ and around the world. I can say the Distinction is without a doubt one of the best places I have ever stayed at. The first time I have ever had a great sleep at a hotel, their beds and pillows are outstanding. The team were amazing , I arrived at midnight to be greeted with a friendly smile and a easy check in. The next morning the young lady in the restaurant and for both days I stayed were outstanding. She confirmed for me that good old fashion service, manners and genuine interest in their job still exists! Sorry I can't recall your name but I hope you see this message because you are a outstanding employee. The breakfast menu was excellent too. If you wanting to stay at very cool Hotel where you will be well looked after make a booking now!
