The Law Courts Hotel is a lucky find for us and anyone else who wants to camp in the middle of Dunedin. Perfectly located a couple of hundred metres from the Octagonal. Surrounded by any number of great cafes, restaurants, shopping, museums and event centres. An added bonus is the pub style restaurant which is part of the bar downstairs. Well priced (we were initially attracted by a special deal) the lower levels have just undergone a major renovation with updates planned for rooms ahead. Due this, I rate the room as a 4 star with a dated shower but superking bed was comfortable and new. Establishment well managed and maintained. Highly recommended. This is our new favourite downtown overnight stop. P

7 of us dined for tea tonight. Every one of us were very happy with our meals. Beautifully cooked and huge portions. Loved the restaurant setup, it feels homely and nostalgic. Best part was the meals were super affordable. We will be regulars from now on. Great service too. Highly recommend!

Came in for dinner with the family and it was amazing. They’ve had a recent change in ownership and you can tell these owners care. We had the bangers & mash and the roast dinner. Very well priced for the amount of food you are given. Good to find a place the still makes classic bangers & mash. Will definitely be back again.

I have only visited the downstairs Bar, where there is access to a small smoking room. Once a while back I enjoyed breakfast in the dining room. I happen to like this Hotel for reasons that I could never put into words. There is a modern machine for placing bets on horse racing and the greyhounds etc. That pastime usually keeps me occupied while I try to enjoy a lager. The location, the character of the building and the general atmosphere add to a pleasant time.

The last time we went here for a meal I thought we had stepped into the dark ages. The new owners have made a fantastic job of updating the bar/restaurant.The decor is very smart and the owners and barman were very friendly and accommodating. The ribs and the bangers and mash were very reasonably priced and generous servings. There were 80 people arrive a day earlier than they had booked so the place was humming. We will definitely be back.

The rooms are well kitted out - heaters, fans, amenities, etc. They are a small home away from home. The staff are happy to cater to requests - it was no trouble getting an extra pillow. The location is just off the Octagon, which made it easy to get around Dunedin. The hotel also has a lift, making access easily for those with mobility aids.

Booked this on line from bookings on line . Loved what we saw , loved the room over looking town , big room table room to move liked location. BUT not what we got no where near it . Was given a very small room with No AC ,paint coming off the wall , no room to move, very disappointed . Went to speak to staff and was told that’s what you get , same size bed.didn’t even offer another room. I wouldn’t book here. But location is good .

This place looks nice, but is not nice at all. We stayed for one night. We locked our room in the evening. At night we saw some light in the room and we thought it should be alright. In the morning the door was open. So somebody looked in our room while we're sleeping. Also the smell in the room is really bad. It was like a fried restaurant.

Definitely not what is advertised! Booked a room as the pictures on the website looked nice. Our room was tiny, had paint peeling off the walls and no place to sit. There was also no airconditioning and lots of road noise. Definitely not worth a visit.

Good value pub meal experience. Ideally situated at the bottom end of town. Last time I was here on a cruise, the whole mid section of town was a 'pop up market'. Had to walk up to the cathedral to get around the circus! If you're coming off a cruise ship, this is your first port of call. It's located just where the markets start. So, readily accessible location. And friendly owner/staff. Family business. Highly recommend the roast of the day. $22. Wife had the porterhouse for $31. Worth every cent. Mash, veg and choice of gravies.
