Portobello Hotel & Bistro keeps things classic fish-and-chips and focused on flavour. Views add a quiet lift to the visit. Ribs and steaks come seasoned and tender. KΕ«mara fries and sides add a tidy finish. Portions suit sharing without losing balance.
Amazing local restaurant. Very good rack of lamb special; but the seafood chowder was world class: filled with fresh sweet blue cod, scallops, mussels and squid, a rich buttery bowl of amazement! Worth the trip to the peninsula. If you are travelling and headed to the Royal Albatross Center, then make a an early booking: specials sellout!
Food is OK for price point, and pub setting. Only option for a sit down meal and bar at Portobello. The lamb burger was OK, pattie was cold by the time it came out, and had a strong gamey taste to it. Other than that presention was good. Service is lacking, as was seated outside was was told to bring in plates etc after eating because of seagulls. Bathroom facilities need to be renovated and improved.
Splendid place to visit if heading towards or back from the Albatross Museum. Needed a bite to eat and this local gem was right on the doorstep. Excellent food menu with really fresh Fish and Chips on the menu. Takeaway options also available, but we chose to sit in and admire the views out the large window overlooking the bay / marina area. A must visit if you are passing through and want a brilliant pit stop!
Sitting humbly at Otaga Penisula this spacious restaurant is worth dropping by if you are on the way to watch Penguines or in the area. The ambience is country feel and warmth. Nice window to look over the bay and mountains. Visit here during winter and temperature is comfortable between 8 to 12ΒΊC. Feel more like spring. The beer battered blue cod is a must to try. They are a nice gravel carpark.
Really nice service. Sadly they had sold out of the Blue Cod. So partner had steak,it was pretty good. I had Sole, same. Salad was to our taste WAY TOO SUGARED. Pub food in a pub. βοΈ
Really great experience here. Went for lunch on a Friday, the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Food was tasty and fresh. We had the blue cod & a chicken pizza with cream cheese and apricot. Both were delicious. Kids also really enjoyed, good options for them as well as plenty to entertain them (few board games, colouring, outdoor kitchen) Must say the lady working there was really lovely and made our experience that much better just by being kind
Absolute knockout here, we had the steak burger, the Blue Cod, the Crispy Chicken Salad. The food, the location, what more could you ask for. Oh....Speights on tap.... perfection.....
