“My sister and I decided to try Fu Lin Kitchen on a whim, we arrived 30 minutes before closing time but the lovely woman let us order what we wanted and the food arrived promptly. I had the beef brisket on rice and cucumber salad, while my sisters had sweet and sour chicken on rice and lemon chicken on rice. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals, including my two year old who shared my beef brisket on rice with me. Cooked to perfection. Would definitely come back here again.”

This small restaurant has its unique charm: it’s compact, bustling, yet incredibly well-organized. Despite the busy atmosphere, the efficiency and attentiveness of the staff stood out. There were five staff members at the front counter, ensuring every request was promptly addressed and tables were swiftly cleaned and turned over for the next guests. One of the most striking aspects of Spicy House is its diverse clientele. It’s arguably the only Chinese restaurant in Auckland where you’ll find more non-Chinese customers than Chinese, which speaks volumes about its broad appeal and the quality of its food. Speaking of the food, it was absolutely delicious. The flavors were rich and authentic, and the beef was particularly noteworthy – tender and perfectly cooked. Each dish we tried was a testament to the culinary skills of the kitchen staff. The prices are reasonable, offering great value for the quality and portion sizes. Overall, our experience at Spicy House was fantastic. The combination of excellent service, delicious food, and a welcoming atmosphere makes it a standout on Dominion Road. “Surprisingly authentic Chinese restaurant in the middle of Auckland CBD. The food is well prepared. It is apparent that they actually take the time to marinate the food for an adequate amount of time using the right seasoning before cooking, which yields an authentic and intense flavor. This is not the typical Chinese restaurant which just dump salty sauce on bland meat. This place is legit! Service was quick and friendly, makes one feel like going home for dinner. All good. I went there twice in three days and consistently failed to take pictures of the food before eating because it was just too yummy.”

“We decided to try this place after asking some diners who were just leaving if they enjoyed there food. Nice clean premises with an eclectic decor. We were seated with menus & hot Jasmine tea. So hard to choose from the beautiful pics in the menu! We ordered two types of fried dumplings, a pork dish and a beef dish. Food came out fast, nice big portions and full of flavour! Absolutely delicious!! Thank you will return soon.”

“Great food, felt like I was back in the Middle East. Loads of food in a eat all you can buffet.for $30. Food was fresh and tasty, was very busy but they squeezed us in on a Saturday night. It's an eat and go type place, you godforsaken the food rather than the atmosphere. Would recommend for those who love Lebanese.”

“I popped in this morning while waiting for my car to be serviced down the road - staff uber-fine with me buying a coffee and setting up my laptop for a couple hours to get some study done - the blackboard menu won me over for a toastie as well - 5/5 so far as toasties go. Overall just a nice semi-rural down-to-earth welcoming vibe and I now have a cafe to visit whenever I'm in Waimauku with time to stop by.”

“I come here almost every morning. Great food and coffee, nice staff, kind and helpful. Pet friendly. I must say recently this Month an elder man had an episode (seizure, heart attack, I don’t know exactly what it was) and dropped all the tableware. The staff quickly gave him space and supported him. They cleaned it up the place, called the ambulance and the owner/ manager kept the old man’s company talking to him and calming him until the ambulance arrived. It’s not only a business but a great place with incredible human beings.”
