King‘s Barbecue Restaurant leans into a simple, bistro‑style approach with tidy execution. Views add a quiet lift to the visit. The team keeps things friendly and organised. Portions are generous yet well judged.
“I've visited this restaurant countless times and I can honestly say their food is consistently good. The prices are reasonable and the portions are generous. Plus, the flavors are just amazing. The staff is always friendly, making the experience even better. Parking can be a bit tricky but there’s plenty of street parking available.”
“Enjoyed my first yumcha in New Zealand here and it’s worth coming back. We ate at 3PM so it was quiet but everything we ordered was superb, specially the siew mai, chee chong fun and BBQ pork pastry! Service was quick, no hassle.”
“Had a $15 takeaway plastic box on the buffet type ting and after having a little bit of everything on the buffet type ting, I now wish I bought a $20 box instead. Everything on the buffet type ting was full of flavour and tasted very authentic. 10/10 would eat more of everything on the buffet type ting when I go here again”
“One of my fave Chinese Restaurants. The manger has the best service. The food is delicious. Except some dishes’ portions a little bit small for the price. The price is a little expensive but definitely worth. Black Pepper Diced Beef with Pleurotus Erygnii and Yeung Chow Fried Rice are my favourite. Kimchi is their recent new dish. It has cabbage, apple, orange and ginger. Very refreshing as an appetiser. The interior is very nice too.”
“One of the best Chinese takeaways I’ve had in a long time! The food was hot, fresh, and full of flavor — you can really tell they use quality ingredients. The portions were generous, and everything was packaged neatly. I especially loved the egg fried rice — absolute perfection. Ordering was easy, and the staff were super polite and efficient. This place has definitely become my go-to for Chinese takeaway. Highly recommend!”
“Had a wonderful meal here at Joyful Chinese Restaurant. The staff were attentive and provided excellent service, and the dining area is well kept and comfortable. The menu had a large range of choice and we found the food to be authentic and really tasty. In particular, our vegetable dishes were superb, perfectly cooked, not oily, nicely seasoned and beautifully presented. The restaurant has been going for 27 years. It was really great to talk with the owners, who are friendly and take great pride in their service to customers and the food they serve. I recommend the tasty food at Joyful Chinese Restaurant.”
“Went there this evening, we haven’t been there for a long-time, but we were not disappointed, the food was plentiful and fresh and the service was good. It was well worth the price, we will definitely be going again.”
“Authentic Cantonese style Yum Cha ! The dim sum is the best that I had in Auckland so far !”
“Good food and good service You have to order on a piece of paper before the food gets pushed out on a trolley to your table Didn’t take too long for food to arrive and they all tasted good Lots of people so try to come earlier or be prepared to wait a bit”
“Slightly expensive but food selection & quality is fantastic. Good service, always a lot of staff around. An ideal place for seafood and the large portions are good for big groups. Also a decent place for yum cha. Booking is recommended as it can get busy. Some dishes are excessively salty however.”
“The food was so tasty! The food was ordered and served fast. The staff were helpful and nice. Price of food was very reasonable. Love the jasmine tea”
“Love their takeaways. Expensive stir fries but good portion size”
“Level 3 lockdown, only open for takeaways. Best to ring ahead and order beforehand, so there is minimal wait time. Food was delicious and still piping hot when I got home. They have a mixture of Canton style and North Eastern Chinese dishes on the menu. I would recommend the Homemade Tofu and Mongolian Lamb Chops”
“Nice people....Great and wholesome food.....to be honest I over ate but it was worth it”
“Delicious dishes especially some from local Dalian eg 三鲜焖子,stir fry cabbage, lamb, wasabi prawns, etc all very yummy. Being there a few times and still want to go.”
“Delicious and great service, prices are very compatible and good portion. Would return.”
“Easily one of the best Chinese restaurants in Auckland. Everything is always awesome. Staff are friendly and extremely helpful and always look after you. Gotta get the duck!!”
“The food is nice but quite expensive. There’s a minimum requirement of $600 if you need to use the small chamber. Anyways the food are fresh and portion size is okay. The chef has performed good standard in preparing the dishes. My fav are the Paua and steamed fish, tender, soft and a lot of flavor. The oysters are jumbo size and are super crispy and fresh.”
“A regular restaurant, the budget friendly dishes are delicious, the prawns are crispy and flavourful, the garlic flavour is rich and absolutely addictive. Super tasty beef mince, wok heated and tender.”
“We came, we ate, and then we ate a lot more haha. SOOO many dishes today and I was honestly surprised to have so many that I could call my favourites. Some of them felt a bit like Chinese fusion such as the yellow prawn curry, but the variety all worked. What tasted like bbq teriyaki pork to beef with rice cakes to the sweet n sour fish, all of it would want any day. Their main dining area has loads of tables, but when you've got a group, opt for the truly private rooms in the back that either have their own toilet. Lastly, they've also got a mini fridge in these back rooms for you to grab whatever bottled drink you want and they'll count them up at the end just like a hotel room.”
“Formally Dragonboat, it was wonderful to see the restaurant open on Saturday night. Special mention for Felix, who always remembers us (and our favourite drinks). An absolute credit to the business and hospitality industry. Much loved Chinese restaurant for Asian flight crews. Very well deserved. Booking for large groups is recommended as most of the larger tables were reserved.”
“After a long day at rainbows end this place satisfied our bellies 100%. Number 18 and 19 are a solid 10/10. Would definitely go back. Duck came out sizzling with a yum as sauce and perfect veges. Pork dish was amazing too and good portion size!”
“I have eaten here multiple times. I can highly recommend the absolute home-cooked authentic Indian food available on Queen Street, at Queen Food Court: near Wakefield St. Nepalese family, the business is called BOMBAY CHINESE - but the food is very traditional home-cooked food where I am from, Bihar/Uttar Pradesh.”
“Always busy and full house restaurant. Famous with their reasonable price of lobster ($158 today). Even my North Shore's friends came to here, to have their famous lobster! But be prepared for the loudness of the busy restaurant. Everyone chatting loudly.”
“3 big scoops of chip for $5, deep fried chicken nibbles, unbelievably crunchy, big size fish!”
