“Remember the good ole days where on a Friday, you'll pick up fish and chips from your local takeaway shop? This is one of those places. Run by a lovely Asian couple, we came around in the evenings after braving 40 minutes of traffic to get their fish and chips. From the looks of it, they maybe sell fresh fish during the day but the metal and glass cabinets were empty come the evening. Menus are printed and handwritten in chalk on the wall. From the looks of it, they're usually busy out back cooking so when you come in, tap the old school bell on the counter top and the gentleman comes out to serve you pretty quickly. There is an old dilapidated couch in the waiting area, reminiscent of one of those couches that you would crash on your friend's place while hanging out or after a night of booze. And also the quintessential picture/diagram of different fish hanging on the wall. Food was pretty darn good, although our bad for the long drive home and the chips becoming a bit soggy. Batter was seasoned well (along with the fish), was not overly battered, and the fish was cooked well and flaked when broken apart. Chips were also seasoned nicely, not dumped on with salt and you could taste the potatoes through it. Good place, wish it was a bit closer so I could call it my local!”

“I recently visited this Mayas restaurant and was blown away by how authentic and flavorful the food was. Every dish tasted like it was made with real care, traditional spices, and genuine Indian cooking techniques. The aromas, the presentation, and the flavours all reminded me of home. The service was friendly and welcoming, and the staff made sure we were comfortable throughout. The menu had a great variety and everything we tried was fresh and delicious. “This Thai restaurant is right near my home, and I can't believe I had never tried it before! I decided to give it a shot over the weekend and was surprised to find it quite busy. I ordered a **Prawn Nasi Goreng**—the portion was huge, and the rice was packed tightly into the bowl. It was super fragrant! I also got the **Crispy Pork Belly**—the pieces were large, and the sauce mixed with the fried rice was incredibly delicious. Finally, I ordered a snack: **Satay Skewers**—chicken skewers coated in rich satay peanut sauce, absolutely amazing! The restaurant even offers a **keto menu**, so it's great for those on a diet or into fitness. I'll definitely be going back again!”

“Had such a lovely experience dining here. If you’re craving classic Taiwanese dishes, this is the best by far, in Akl. The stinky tofu was similar to the night market offerings in TW. Other classics we tried were beef noodle soup, 3 cup chicken, pork braised noodles etc. Delicious! Service is great too. Will be coming back again!”

“Ok wow. First of all, ring ahead and place your order if you’re hungry or in a hurry. We just randomly called in while visiting the beach on a spontaneous trip from south Auckland and waited almost half an hour for our order, but it was a busy Saturday night and we weren’t in a hurry. There’s a reason so many people buy from there, the food is epic! Tasty, fresh, packaged nicely….and for what we got, it’s a good deal! We could order half as much next time and still feed the family. We got two chook burgers, a lusty, wedges and a kids hotdog meal. Could have split the chook burger between two, it’s a whopper. I had to remove half my filling to eat it and still couldn’t finish it. Highly recommend! Also their kids meals are a good deal for the price.”

“Johnny's Steakhouse deserves it's 5 star rating from me as I have dined there many times and the food and service is consistent. The food quality always great and so when you take a friend there that you have recommended Johnny's to, you will not be disappointed. They won't let you down, especially Manoj ... The best thing about Fridays at Johhny's is that they are open from 11am making Steaks for lunchtime a perfect place to go. My friend Jim was so impressed he has placed a review after today making me realise I should too. I have posted photos from today and the same meals order over a couple of years showing the consistency of quality. Regards Eric”

“First time ordering from Burger Geek Grey Lynn and it did not disappoint! We went big – Broli burger, bacon ends & cheese croquettes, onion rings, jalapeño poppers, hot wings with honey sriracha, and large fries. The bacon ends & cheese croquettes and onion rings were the absolute MVPs – seriously next-level delicious. The fries were a bit meh, but to be fair they had a 30-minute delivery ride to survive. The Broli burger was a standout too – loved the crunch of the slaw, tangy pickles, and those juicy chicken tenders. But All in all, a super tasty feast. Can’t wait to order again.”

“Good spot for South Indian food. We tried Dosa and the kids ate idly, it was prepared fresh. The staff was very warm and helpful. We also drank coffee, which was not a traditional filter coffee but it was good. Good spot to enjoy Dosas.”

“It's like stepping into a little pocket of Japan. I really enjoy the slower pace of this place. And ordering a few things at a time. They have a top 5 recommended skewers list, and I'd have to second it. The only other thing I'd add is the beef tongue and the grilled rice balls. The latter has such an interesting texture when grilled. The karaage is also a classic must have, as well as the beef tataki. I've also tried the gingko nuts and it's quite the interesting flavour and texture - worth trying once. Though Google tells me I shouldn't eat more than 7 of these nuts in a day... Great sake and classic Japanese beer options. And a very cosy ambience. If you're not a big group, would recommend sitting by the kitchen. Always fun to watch them grill.”

The average price range is around $21, making it a bit expensive, but the consistently recommended food quality and quantity make it worthwhile and fulfilling. Personally, I enjoy their crispy chicken with rice and braised pork belly on rice.”

“Hands down favourite dumplings in the whole wide world has to be the pork and chive in spicy sauce. Their ‘hot’ is not to be underestimated, but even though it burns a little for me it’s well worth it. Dan dan noodles a nice accompaniment to the dumplings but not a must. Portion sizes are huge so always go for the Small if in doubt. Fell in love with the original Basu Lounge in Takapuna but I really rate their Browns Bay location more.”
