Chanced upon this shop while walking around. The food served is great and price is reasonable.

Got dinner here with my wife our first night in Wellington, mostly because it was near the craft market we visited first. Food was good and well-worth the price, even had enough leftovers for another meal the following day since we had a fridge in our hotel. Not where I would go if I was looking for high-end authentic Japanese food but would absolutely go again and recommend for a quick bite, my wife liked the katsu enough that we've worked to find places with good katsu at home in Chicago. Seating was inside but open to a busy street, it wasn't problematic but is worth knowing depending on your mood.

Having my dinner here, food taste good, but sadly no others drink available beside of soft drinks. Heemmm, should prepare some tea to serve customers. Other than that overall is ok...

The service staff was generally friendly. Staff at the counter more friendly than the ones serving. However, the dons served werenβt authentic dons that one will get in Japan or Asia except for salmon don. The rest of the dons as you can see in the pictures are prepared more the Chinese way, wok fried and served on rice. Every don comes with miso soup. Sushi has been adapted to suit the tastebuds of New Zealanders so if you are looking for good authentic Japanese sushi, this will be disappointing. Thankfully, the counter staff service made up for all that is lacking. The salmon on the salmon don is fresh and sweet but itβs a pity itβs cubed and not sliced.

It was my first Japanese food. I virtually liked it. Food was well cooked, fresh, and healthy. Staff were also smiley and nice. I will definitely get back there in the pipeline.

Despite the absence of WiFi, or the questioning and confused face of the waitress when I asked for an L&P, the quintessential New Zealand drink I've learned being obsessed with, the experience with this shop was very good overall. The food was not immediately cheap, but still justified by its quality and portion size. I ordered a "Combination Bento", and in a dozen of minutes I was welcomed by a stunning quantity of food encompassing chicken katsu teriyaki, teriyaki chicken on a generous portion of fluffy and perfectly cooked rice, two pieces of meat-based sushi (whose pieces of chicken and meat were not freshly cooked but still met my taste buds quite requestive standards), various small starters like crunchy katsu prawn and spring rolls, and a salad. The chicken was pleasantly tender and flavorful, and all the katsu pieces crunchy outside and succulent inside. I would give 5 stars if some of the pieces of meat wouldn't have been barely reheated and the local beverage was available, but this is the fullest 4-stars review I could give to a restaurant.

Edit. As of 17th december i recently was disappointed with this restaurant on the 16th i came in to get 3 sushi at $1.60 each and a crumbed prawn for $2.10 and the girl tried to charge me $8 something. On the 17th i arrived about 8 10pm quite hungry and ready to spend $30 and had been trying to rush only to be told the kitchen is not taking any more orders when the restaurant closes at 9, this is not good ive been a regular customer for nearly 3 months spending an average of $40 a week and they couldnt add one more meal to the list 50mins before closing? It wasnt that busy there were still 3 tables empty . I dont know if i want to continue going there after that experience. The help yourself sushi is quite small and pricy, but tasty, however the bento boxes are amazing, big, filling, not too expensive, delicious and fresh and I highly recommend a bento box from here, for $25 you get tempura calamari, tempura prawn, tempura vegetable patty, and spring rolls, your main of choice, mine teriyaki salmon, a salad, 2 pieces of chef choice sushi, rice and miso. I come here once a week for one.. I'm a a
