“Honestly, I don’t understand the previous review. We enjoyed our stay. The lady at the reception was lovely, everything was clean and there were heaps of other backpackers (also some workers, but they were nice as well). Nice location as well. I would definitely come back.”
“Cozy hostel. Rooms are comfy and spacious. The facilities are being cleaned daily. The kitchen is well equipped with multiple stoves and an oven. The garden is a nice place to hang out on a sunny day.”
“Met the owners of this establishment while rock climbing. They told me all about their services. Free accommodation but I had to cook some meals for them every now and then. Great (and handsome) staff and a very comfortable couch to sleep on!!!”
“Nice homely feel, cheap accommodation and good location.”
“If you after the real Youth Hostel experience this is the place. Loved staying there, very homely and really retro.”
“Super clean everywhere! It was so well stocked with everything we needed. The host was fantastic. So lovely and helpful Plus they have a shop downstairs which is great! Thank you for a lovely stay!”
“A quiet and wonderful home-style backpackers. The hosts, Alan and Keiko, are lovely and welcoming. The garden is gorgeous, and the rooms and facilities well kept. Definitely recommend staying, and will come back again!”
“The accommodation was fantastic! I stayed here for 2.5 months and it was a really good stay. The hostel is clean, the staff is nice and the prison theme is really cool. If you want a special hostel experience, this should be your choice in Christchurch.”
“It wasn’t just a hostel—it was my home. Over the past six months, I made so many wonderful memories with amazing people. Everyone was always kind, welcoming, supportive, and considerate. Karen keeps the place clean and cozy, provides organic eggs, and cares about how we’re doing. Antony shows up whenever we need him and can fix just about anything. Lucy, the staff member, is the friendliest and most amazing person! And I miss Pipi the cat so much. The location is great—15min walk to the CBD—and the environment is very safe. I feel so lucky to have spent such a valuable time at Chester St Backpackers!”
“Cozy hostel in the heart of Arthur's Pass Village. The owner Tash is fantastic and very responsive over phone (if you don't see her in-person) if you need anything (I had an check-in issue from booking third party). Large size community kitchen with everything you need. Dorm and lounge areas were very spacious and had all the basic necessities.”
“Great hostel in a good location. Parking space at the hostel, but if that's full there is plenty of street parking. I loved the design of the hostel with different houses and a lot of grass space. Good security in the hostel as it has a card key for the building and each room. And there is also a safe for each person in the room to use. Each bed has two USB plug and two outlets. My only complaint was that the beds were pretty uncomfortable and springy, but I really enjoyed the hostel and it's a great value so I'm still giving it 5 stars. Kitchen was soooo impressively clean and so were the toilets and showers. Each one is separate and you get your own space in the showers. Lastly, cool staff! Thanks for being so chill!”
“Excellent place to stay if you’re a backpacker! It’s very cheap, but I was surprised at what it is for the price. The location is amazing and is about a 10 minute walk from New Regent Street for breakfast. The bus that goes directly to the airport is right by the backpackers as well. Beds are very comfy and come with a privacy curtain. The only downside is that the female room has one bed without a curtain, which I didn’t like/expect. The guy on reception was very kind and upgraded me to another room without any extra cost which I was very thankful for. The guests were very quiet and there’s an area to meet fellow backpackers if you want to. I highly recommend coming here, it was a great experience. It’s better than most backpackers which cost more.”
“I’ve been staying at this backpackers hostel for the past 2 weeks , and my experience has been very good. The stay was comfortable, the facilities were well-maintained, and the environment was friendly. Overall, a pleasant and hassle-free experience.”
“Great place to stay. Hospitality 5 stars”
“Great place too chill and enjoy”
“Our two-night stay in Urbanz Queenstown was extremely pleasant! Each bed had its own personal nightlight and outlets and a curtain for privacy, though the curtain didn’t go past the bunk ladder. The bedding was super comfortable and towels were provided. Toilet paper wasn’t always available in all of the bathrooms. The showers were a decent size and there were hooks and shelves for your belongings. The hostel location is pretty central to the city which is very convenient and walking distance to the botanic gardens and nearby shops. At reception, we were advised of some parking spaces which were free 24/7, which was pretty nice. The wifi was pretty bad in all areas of the hostel, and the layout is confusing because there’s no singular staircase that takes you to all the floors, you’ll need to weasel your way around to make your way to the kitchen. Reception isn’t always staffed, so if the sliding door is unlocked during the “open” hours, the hostel isn’t very secure as you can access almost any part of the hostel without a key card once you get past reception. The cost for the two nights we stayed was reasonable. The kitchen was well stocked, absolutely beautiful and had an abundance of space for both dry and cold storage. I’d stay here again!”
“the owner and staff of this accommodation are very friendly but You may feel a little uncomfortable because it's a little far from downtown The best part is that the price is really cheap Also, some cute cats greet us The shower and bathroom are good, too If there is anything to be aware of, you can only pay in cash”
“This hostel is very authentic. Walking in feels like you've arrived at an international living room; the vibe is instantly welcoming. It's very easy to meet other travellers here. Plus, good location, free Wi-Fi, and a garden with a Calisthenics "monkey bar" are good bonuses!”
“We would like to say a huge thank you to the team at Travel 2 U especially Ryan. My husband and I dreamt of a European trip for years, and this year we decided to do it! Lots of communication over several months prior as he drafted our plans. Ryan really listened to us and spent many hours ensuring everything was perfect for our 6 week adventure. Faultless! Highly recommend, cant wait for the next trip. Thank You”
“Lovely place, we lived here for 3 months and it was the best experience in New Zealand! The owner is always willing to help you, the rooms are very comfortable and equipped with everything you need to live in peace.”
“Great cheap affordable private rooms available”
“Super helpful manager. A bit far from the CBD but there is buses so was no problem. Clean facilities! Good one.”
