ZERO stars. I stayed three years ago though. We picked the place as it was the cheapest. The one time I don't review a place..... It was dirty, revolting, stained, dirty bed sheets, disgusting bathrooms, despicable kitchen. I wouldn't stay here again if I were paid to. We erroneously pre paid two nights but left after the first due to general disgust. We were not refunded. Avoid

I agree with most of the comments here. It is not where I would stay again. Way overpriced! It is old and very worn inside. The shower did not work but at least the toilet did. There are some long term residents that might be a problem for young women.
The Wifi did work and there was a free to use washer and dryer out back, however I never got to use it as someone was doing laundry for what looked like half of Christchurch. You may have better luck. This was the only bad experience I had in 10 awesome days in CC.

My suspicions as to the quality of this establishment were first aroused upon arrival at the reception office which instead of being open was locked and filled with an upturned bathtub, beer keg and assorted junk.
My partner and I then wandered to the front door where a woman let us in and told us to call up the owner on the phone, we were then given instructions to unlock a locker and retrieve our key whilst a drunk man entered the building mumbling at us.
As we entered the place a slightly demented older lady in a nightie strode to the front door and mumbled something and then walked briskly back down the hall while the drunk man tried to explain how the television in the dingy common room was working by cliking the various buttons.
We unlocked the door to our room and were less than impressed, there was a double bed with about a foot of room between it's bottom and the small bench at the other end of the room. The back yard appeared to be a dumping ground for refuse.
We then locked the door to our room, returned the key to the locker and left in search of a more pleasant place to stay. I've never seen a worse hostel in my life although my partner had to admit she has seen worse during her travels in Peru.
This establishment appears to be a halfway house for recovering drug addicts and alcoholics, there was even a mountain bike outside with a dayglo orange safety vest draped over it, the standard transport of the convicted drink driver.

No stars! Foul and disgusting!
We booked this place online as it was listed on a backpackers site. It looked OK from the photos and description
What we found when we turned up was a cesspit stinking of cigarettes. People live here permanently (cooking and smoking in their rooms) and it shouldn't be advertised as a place for backpackers to stay. I felt dirty just being there.
The owner was really rude and refused to refund us. However there was no way we could stay there. My advice? Stay far away!

Absolute piece of rubbish place to stay. very dirty, rats and flies everywhere. place is never cleaned and smells like a dump. Landlord came into my room when I not there and stole money from my drawers. expect to see the police around every day or so. Jimmy (one of the landlords) likes to walk around the house naked. Violet (the other landlord) smells like fish, and will try to rip you off.
