“Great place for a scenic walk and explore the historic tunnels and learn some history. Access to a beautiful long beach, 360 degree views across Tamaki Makaurau. Native flora and fauna.”
“Fantastic walk up to the old gun positions for lunch. The walk back around the beach takes a bit longer but is worth it. Rocky bottom beaches but the water is very refreshing after the climb. Those of moderate fitness can complete this walk but should take their time as the initial climb is quite steep. Ring ots on water and on sunny days a hat and sunscreen! There is no shade to be found. Highly recommend for a fun day out.”
“Fantastic island to explore. Great walking tracks. Amenities were surprisingly good. Great place for kids especially the boat ride thrown in.”
“First time visit. Nice. Worth taking the gondola up. The view is panoramic and beautiful. My family enjoyed the hike very much.”
“All great reviews and I dont have words to describe this phenomenon place. Everything is well groomed. The park is so clean and does not matter how you roam the park, you wont get lost. A must visit, and please make a donation.”
“This hike is definitely not for the unfit. Within a few minutes of the hike you encounter many flights of stairs. Fortunately within 15 minutes of the hike you encounter some kauri trees. You may keep going and do the loop.”
“Excellent for all ages!! Neat and safe, big Open space grasslands Cafe next door, mini golf option. One of thee best playgrounds in Hamilton and we now frequent weekly. Worth visiting for sure”
“This is a great nature walk for people of all ages and great for dog owners except those who don't adhere to the rules by letting there dogs of the leash which I saw today while walking my dog it only takes one incident of an attack of any kind and legislation will bank dogs from entering the park there are plenty of signs informing dog owners that dogs must be on a leash at all times while in the park and for those few who ignore this simple rule jeopardize the park for the rest of us dog owners who use the place to exercise our pets thanks lady you know who you are”
“Walk through to Whataroa Falls, "Remember it is the journey not the destination!", in other words look up, look around you (however be aware lots of tree roots adorne the path so stop to do this as you could trip up) embrace your surroundings this forrest is a beautiful chaos of lush greenery, breathe in the fresh air and listen to the sweet sounds of birds these were my highlights too (and the birds came so close too!). So from the carpark from the entrance (actually 2 entrances 1 is tucked to the far left of the carpark). So 1 hour 20 minutes to falls and 1 hr 20 minutes back, however I took a lot longer stopping to take photos and take it all in. About 21/2 hours. It was raining when I went in but it stopped when I arrived at the falls (always bring a pack up raincoat). The first 20 minutes you walk on the rimu loop track, on the way there are very informative plaques telling you about the forests native plants. You then reach the start of the walk to the falls or you can continue to do the rimu loop walk. I will enclose signs. The walk is fairly well laid out with orange triangles to follow. It was a bit muddy from the rain closer to the falls so wear comfy study shoes. The track fitness level I believe can start from people with a beginner fitness level (lots of families doing it too). Although I am not that fit and I managed to do it especially walking back from the falls and walking up a few hills. So you get to a lovely stream just before the falls easy to cross, then there is a sign just up from that 2 min to falls note there is probably 2 falls but I only got to see 1(the main), you can see from around the rocks around there is one over the edge. But this is much further around in dense bush. Nice spot and nice falls. So anyway on the way back I took the anticlockwise walk 770metres which is the one that leads to the left of the carpark (where as I started on the right hand entrance). Note make sure you also take plenty of water, food, 1st aid kit and warm zip thru jacket in case it gets cold. I absolutely loved this walk and highly recommend doing it. ENJOY the Forrest!”
“The Okere river is famed for its kayaking and white water rafting which if you are lucky you’ll be able to watch from some of the view points. Some great scenery and a chance to get close to the water. There are some trails to walk and a decent amount of car parking.”
“A beautiful hidden gem! Gravel trail which leads to a beautiful and surreal view of the beach! Best to wear takkies, carry a jacket and a bottle of water as the trail is long, gets windy and is quite a workout.. but absolutely worth every step!”
“It's a nice walk, only the sandy parts are a bit hard to walk.”
“Stunning views of the peninsula and ocean, with dramatic cliffs and erosion formations. The trail is easy, but close to cliff edges at some points so be careful. And there are sheep. Who doesn't love sheep? The road to get there is a narrow dirt road. I would avoid it in the rain, in an old, manual van.”
“Great lil spot nice selection of top shelf. Friendly and helpful staff”
“Come here quite regularly as the boys love it. Climbing slides, sandpit, flying fox as well as a good area to kick the ball around.”
“Very easy and quick walk from road. Waterfall is stunning and beautiful to swim in”
“Love this track! super fun but cardio intensive walk (HILLS). The drive is easy with sealed road access and a well-maintained carpark. Carparks can be hard to find during peak times! The toilets are fantastic, taps, flushing and even loo paper. The hike itself is generally easy to moderate, taking around 1.5 hours round trip. The main highlight is the beautiful 15-meter waterfall and the refreshing swimming hole at its base.”
“Over looking the Huia bay, this picturesque lookout offers a breathtaking sight of the backwaters in the Waitakere region. A short yet lovely escape place from the city. Ideal to visit in the evenings with friends and family , right before sunset. Visiting this place is totally free of cost with ample parking space available. For groups visiting with toddlers and children below age of 10, it’s better to be careful and monitor while walking towards the viewing deck thought the railings are quite high.”
“A must see if coming to Auckland, such a beautiful place to go for a trek along the different trails, or a quick dip to cool off on the hot days we have here, the waterfall is beautiful and such a nice backdrop for the family photo. Can get busy during the weekends so may have to park up the drive down and walk down, a fairly easy gradient too.”
“Enjoyed the amazing service and food. Was served by the young fella, was the first time trying greek cuisine, beautiful flavours. Nice location, easy to find.”
“I and my son just strolling around the hagley till we found this stunning place which we decided to have a look inside, been here already for a long time in nz but it was my first time to went inside that place and it was amazing, loves those different sort of plants.please check it out if you have time .☺️cant upload video as it was too long.”
“Top notch delicious food, fast service and lovely restaurant, Rangiora's best kept secret!”
“It's a really lovely walk to see some rapids and waterfalls. We didn't see them, but people do white water rafting and kayaking on this river! Not sure if they go down the waterfall, but that'd be incredible to see. The walk wasn't epic, we did it with a baby strapped to us and it was doable.”
“It was sn overcast day when we stopped in at the falls and we expected it to be quiet. To the contrary the place was bustling with people walking their pooches and tourists snapping photos. The place was well kept and clearly signposted so you couldn't get lost. Amenities were in good shape too surprisingly! If you have some time or a pup to walk or you're looking for that cool photo background, McLarens could be your spot!!!”

“Great place to chill with the kids on the weekend. It's close to Costco and Foodie so it's quite convenient for groceries shopping”
“One of the top off-leash dog parks in central Auckland, this well maintained gem offers a peaceful escape from the city’s hustle and bustle. It’s an ideal spot for dogs and their owners to unwind and enjoy some quality time away from the crowds.”
