   Definitely go here if you're in Auckland. Great views of the city & harbour. Close to Mission Bay beach & restaurants. Visit the Savage memorial for a former NZ Prime Minister (we seem to have lost his body though...) Good parking at the top, but be aware of the gate times.

   Bastion Point (Michael Joseph Savage Memorial Park) is one of Auckland’s best viewpoints, combining history with stunning scenery. The central obelisk and sunken gardens give the place a dignified, classical feel, honoring New Zealand’s first Labour Prime Minister. From the grassy slopes, you get panoramic views of Waitematā Harbour, the Auckland skyline with Sky Tower, and Rangitoto Island lying across the water. One of the highlights is a blue bench under a large tree on the eastern slope, made famous in the film Only Cloud Knows. Sitting there with the sea breeze and endless horizon feels poetic and timeless. The park itself is peaceful, spacious, and never too crowded—perfect for a short walk, photos, or simply enjoying the fresh air. A must-visit if you want to experience both Auckland’s history and its most beautiful coastal views.

   Beautiful place… enjoyed watching sunset here… absolutely loved it. It’s a great spot for photography as well as proposals etc but I think council permission is needed. Must visit to see the beautiful garden and an amazing view.
