Place to stay for free, even for non certified self contained vehicules, just need to fill out a short form from the local council. Has two showers and two toilets which were handy. We were there during the end of year festivities and easily got a spot.

Nice place near the river with toilets and free showers. Two nights are free but you must fill in an online form to get permission. Active birdlife around.

No sink in the toilet, but there's hand sanitizer in the toilet (long drop). Hot shower actually works (hot not lukewarm), but only allowed a 2 minute shower as per the notice board. So I gave the shower a pass, but used the facility to brush my teeth instead. Since there's no sink and running water, not sure where else one is expected to brush teeth. It's one shower, not 2 as another commenter said 2. The other cubicle next to the shower was locked, no one was there. I thought perhaps it was a gas cylinder in there that was getting the water to heat up so quickly. My guess is the hot shower is from gas not solar. The shower needs a clean as it was quite smelly and moldy, and lots of flying bugs were inside. One very noisy family was there, which detracted from the experience. The dad especially was literally yelling at his children, it was bad. Their family was a nuisance and took away the peaceful vibe of the place. If you bring your children here, don't yell or scream at them - it makes you look incompetent as you clearly lack parenting or adult skills. Make sure your children are well behaved before you bring them here, because otherwise you're a narcissist who doesn't care about the peace of others, but you only think of yourself. There were heaps of other people here and they were all quiet and peaceful, but this one family was full of drama and noise, horrible. I stayed here for one night as had enough of them.

Beautiful little camping spot. Basic facilities but functional. Plenty of room in the middle of winter. A great little place to stop.

Ablution block and plenty of space with tree surrounds, water views and a variety of water fowl. All accompany by smiling folk and a range of bird sounds.

Need a permit but took 2 minutes to get one online. Nice area with proper rubish bins and recycling bins. One shower working with hot water. Not the most even ground though for parking camper

Great little place to stop off at. Showers, long drop toilets, gas bbq. No permit required if staying 2 nights or less, can even freedom camp with a tent. River safe to enter at the end of the camp along with a boat ramp. Water seems clean with some weeds as you swim further out. Lovely river walk to Arapuni as you enter the camp. Dogs are welcome here and whilst most owners seem to be really good cleaning up there is the odd bit of dog poo around possibly where dogs have roamed on their own.

Beautiful campsite. Just loved it. + lots of space (you really can pick your spot!) + toiletes + cold inside! shower + free barbecues + recycling bins - some sandflies (not too many though) - some noose from time to time from people sailing on the river - no dump or water (not even potable) ? Remote location, thus very low reception and internet When we were there, we even managed to see double rainbow. :)

This is a peaceful meal stop, stretch/ break in a long north or south heading journey for us. The area is expansive and there is plenty of room to find a quiet place to gather your wit's or recharge the soul either after or before experiencing the mayhem on SH1. Located on an alternate much less travelled route in the central north island the drive to get here is scenic and worth the extra corners. This is also a freedom camping area with great support facilities for that activity as well as travellers, and we've always found it to be a comfortable place to stop.
