Excellent park for NZMCA members. Close to the Cook Strait ferries and train station just down the road for getting into Wellington for the day.
Just left the park for an early ferry to Picton. Been hunkering down there for the last two days whilst Wellington and the South Island were experiencing severe gales. Felt quite safe. Lots of others around us riding out the weather too.
Fantastic place … close to facilities and services; spacious and very well-maintained park with great utilities and dog park. Plimmerton village and beach are lovely and within easy walking distance. Train service to town. Highly recommend.
Big park, almost full most days, probably because of proximity to ferry terminals. Has water facilities, waste dump. Nice little common room. But they wouldn't let me take my little dog in there, even tho they are dog friendly :( There is a dog run area. And even some lines to hang your washing.
Excellent NZMCA member only park. Great stopover before getting the ferry - only 25 minutes.
Visiting a sister staying there, nice spot, clean and tidy. Great location for local cafe's and the train to travel further afield.
Just lovely. Walking distance to village, train station huge sports fields and dog exercise area. Bakery and coffee 50m down the road.
Typical NZMCA camp, no toilet or shower or power, but one of the few places a large vehicle can camp in the Wellington region. Custodian is genuinely nice, not like some other NZMCA custodians, who only do the job so they can live in the camp. Nice walkway into Plimmerton. Book exchange. And yes, SH 1 that used to run past is now SH 59, so you will get a good night's sleep. Gravel pit has hedging, native plants, handy dump station in camp, and good information about Plimmerton available in the form of a brochure. RV place next door. Easy access, genuine turn around space for larger vehicles, although in summer I imagine you'd not be able to find a spot. Dog exercise park and sports ground next door. Close enough to the ferry. Pedestrian gate so you don't have to open the big gate to walk out. I would use the camp again.
Very tidy. People consistently coming in and out of park which is nice. Welcoming sign in shed. Veggie garden looks well taken care of. Large shed looks like a great space to hang out.
