Update - I was there on 23-24 September, and the showers are still out of order. Also noticed there's no sink inside the toilets, so folks were brushing teeth at the sink outside visible to the public. No privacy. Overall felt safe as many CCTV cameras were around. --- Disappointed as the showers are being gutted out and redone, so no hot showers available. I got my Go Penny key/token, was keen to have my first hot shower here using that, but will have to be next time! There's a white gate that closed the site (by the showers) to freedom camp, and a sign by the showers saying no freedom camping from 14 - 20 September. No message or announcement on their website about this. A builder is there gutting out the showers. There's freedom camping park available near the entrance, where only toilets are available. No rubbish bin available, take all your rubbish back with you.

Best campground we visited in New Zealand so far. Free toilets, nice area for camping with picnic tables in tree shade and all the amenities you might need on the road. Make sure to buy kiwicash chip before you go. There is also 4G reception available.

Best free camping I ever been!!! Don't forget to buy your kiwicamp key to use shower, laundry, etc. Very clean and really well maintained! Recommended 100%

Nice place to camp and great idea with the hot showers etc. Don't forget to buy the kiwicash key tag though as it doesn't accept actual cash. Also, they need more of these places in the north island

I called in on the way to Rotorua from Tauranga, and it was well worth the stopover. This is a superb example of freedom camping using the KiwiCash setup and has been well thought-out.

With permission from TECT park I stayed here overnight in my car. They have a nice new clean kiwicamp facility onsite which has free toilets. You do have to pay to use the showers or kitchen facilitys which you have to organize a kiwicash tag for before you go there as you can't get one there. The toilet block is well illuminated which makes it easy to find in the night. The freedom camping area has plenty of space for various sized vehicles which is really nice.

Amazing Freedom camping ground with fantastic facilities. For people staying in tents you can stay here for 2 nights in a row max. For Self Contained it’s 4. We arrived around 5pm and the site was very quiet, assuming the weather had hampered a lot of people’s camping adventures. Very clean and well maintained areas. Everyone here on the night we stayed were very respectful of each others space These grounds have a KiwiCamp pod where you can use a kiwiCash tag to make full use of the facilities, which include: Hot Showers, Laundry, cleaning sinks and electric cooking. You can use the toilets free of charge and there is a basic Sink and Out Tap on the side of the pod. There’s even picnic benches scattered around where you can pitch next too. And a few undercover benches too! 100% recommend this location, will hopefully get the chance to come back.

We were here Christmas day 2021, so was a beautiful day and very quiet. The birds were singing and overall very pleasant. Good facilities with toilets and showers but do take care to get the kiwikey required.
