“We had a powered site for two nights (early October 2025). The bathrooms are very clean & tidy (plenty of toilets and showers). And there's a large kitchen, with a seated dining area. The hosts are very nice. Oh, the location is just behind the beach. And the caravan park is perfectly located = short 8min drive to the city (easiest parking for motorhomes is directly across the train tracks, from the Dunedin train station). It's a quick walk up over the tracks to access the train station AND the city centre. And 30min north-east of the caravan park is the Albatross Centre (worth going to). There's a "coastal route" and a "plateau route" = both are the MOST scenic drives you shall ever do in your life.”

“Really great customer service. The high winds took out the power to the petrol station so I returned it unfilled, then the wife left her phone in the car. We only noticed once we were at the gate. The young lady ran to the car and got the phone through customs to us and didn't charge us the service fee to fill up as it wasn't our fault. Thanks so much. The car was also nice and easy airport parking”

“I had the pleasure of staying at the Chalet Backpackers for some months a few years ago. My stay left such an impression that I felt compelled to write this review. Met loads of awesome people and wow what an interesting and beautiful building! The owner Richard and administrator Chris were not only friendly and but also great to chat with. I felt thoroughly comfortable and entertained throughout my stay. All in all I couldn't recommend Chalet Backpackers more highly and on my next trip to Dunedin I'll surely spend some more time there :)”

In that time I have experienced only one organisational problem, and it was unclear whether it originated with the travel agent of the airline. Nevertheless it was resolved by Brooker by telephone within half an hour, and I was able to continue my journey as scheduled. Over the years of my acquaintance with Booker I have been treated unfailing courtesy and patience; many times various staff have 'gone the extra mile' to satisfy my requests and to tailor my travel according to my needs. “What a delightful property and host couple. We had everything we needed and more, very homely and in a rural setting close to town and the airport by car. It was roomy and warm, with lots of thoughtful touches. We enjoyed talking to Jeanette and Tom. Make sure to visit the Royal Albatross Centre whilst you're there too,a great day out. Recommended.”
