We was passing through Putāruru and stayed here as a last-minute choice despite the lower Google rating. Honestly, the experience was great! While the building is a bit older, the facilities are complete. Having an ensuite at this price point exceeded my expectations. The staff were very friendly, and there are several good restaurants nearby. Incredible value for money.

The Hotel is situated on a busy road and rail line. With no cooling other than the windows, you'll likely be kept awake by the noise outside. With those things, a horribly leaky gutter and blinds that bang on the wall with the slightest of breeze, don't expect much sleep. The room is clean but very old school. Could do with some TLC. The pillows are pretty thick and the mattress isn't very good quality (you can feel the springs, it's noisy and any movement disrupts the other sleeper). It's fine for one night at a push, but wouldn't recommend any longer and probably only as a last resort.

Honestly not that bad if place. Yes it's a little dated but that's doesn't mean it's not a nice place. The beds a little springy but it's not the worst bed I've ever slept on. Staff are great, staying late for us to check in late after Christmas. Would have been nice to see this place when it was in its prime but you can tell she's been around for a while

Myself, daughter and granddaughter stayed here Wednesday due to vehicle breaking down suddenly. Owner very helpful and offered help with vehicle breaking down. Very approachable and we felt so comfortable. Service was outstanding from the second we set foot on the property and met the new owner. Also shared with us that he is currently renovating hotel. His service was very welcoming, very fast and made sure we were well informed of using the facility. Upon entering the place,we noticed it looked and smells very clean and is also very clean all the way through. The entrance is beautiful. Price is very affordable. Room was so nice and bed so comfortable and again, smells and looks very clean. Shower was great. Would absolutely recommend. Other hotel guests were very friendly. Was quiet and warm. Felt very safe and secure.Dairy across the road has friendly owner too. Being females in a town we've never stayed in, this is definitely a place we would highly recommend. Great location too.

Do not stop here if you want fancy, price reflects this. Do stop here if you want a fantastic historic building, quirky and full of character! Plenty of parking out front or beside the hotel. Free WiFi which works! Clean rooms, heaters, ample space in the rooms. Personally I loved the old tiled bathroom, reminds me of schools in the 80/90s or from the shining..... you decide. Looks like it's recently been carpeted throughout. Currently lots of renovation ongoing, hopefully restoring it's beauty. Shops all around for evening meals, breakfasts, even a laundrette next door. Kettle and fridge in the room, even with hot choc sachets! There is a shared kitchen on the landing if you chose to cook. We had the studio/family room. Double bed and two singles, seating area and TV. For a budget stop, highly recommended!

Good news, new owners have purchased this Hotel and are wanting to restore it. Very capable and experienced manager employed for the project. When it's finished it will be spectacular. Watch this space Putaruru - exciting times!!

Room was very dirty, stains on carpet and door and paint peeling off windowsill. Service and location seemed fine.

Floors have stains bed barely holding together dust dirt everywhere bathroom needs a good scrub. Man at desk was wonderful even if his clothes were scruffy

We were here for just over 1 month. The manager was super helpful to us(including my partner and baby daughter) and always said goodmorning. The room we were given however, was way too small for the 3 of us so it's built more for single people or a couples stay. Oh, and the other thing is that the kitchen is tiny so you'll probably end up purchasing takeaway while there. Other than that, we are grateful as it provided us with the basic necessities of shelter and amenities.

The hotel building itself is a lovely classic, but hasn't had much attention in recent years - all that wood needs a clean and varnish, and the paint is cheap and peeling off all over the place. Classic fittings are lovely, but not when they're so old they stop working - I had to ask for help with the bathroom door-handle. However, the bed was modern, spotlessly clean, and comfortable, and there was plenty of heat if needed, as well as good light-excluding blinds. Value for money in the parts I really needed.
