“Volunteers were very kind. They were happy to explain history of this house.”
“Great hidden beach on a gravel road but still not too far form auckland CBD.we were lucky enough to see this beautiful place on our last day in NZ and it did not disappoint. Decent fishing from the multiple rock locations with a handful of streams that the kids can play in (water is hot if the weather is). Definitely worth checking out”
“The detour approaching Jacob’s Ladder bridge was muddy 4/10/2023 in places. The descent was slippery but not very challenging. Families with young kids navigated easily.”
“Awesome place for an uphill walk”
“Great place to throw a ball for your pups, have a decent walk off-lead with hills and interesting places to sniff, always fun.”
“Great spot to sit in the sun in the Cafe nearby in summer. Loved the van gogh exhibition at this location.”
“The Eastern Walkway Trail is a fantastic coastal track offering stunning views of Wellington Harbour and the rugged coastline. The well-maintained path takes you through lush native bush, and there are plenty of lookout points along the way to soak in the panoramic scenery. The trail is relatively easy, making it suitable for all fitness levels, and it's a great spot for a leisurely walk or light hike. The highlight is the picturesque view of the Cook Strait and Pencarrow Head. Overall, it's a perfect escape into nature, right near the city.”
“What a hidden treasure this is. Ducks, gardens, eels and a place for children to play. Reminds me of Englands allotments gardens.”
“Chilly, but nice coffee at the cafe.”
“Beautiful walk along the trail great views all along the trails”
“Stunning scenery good roads truly beautiful”
“Beautiful walk on a clear winter day. While it’s of moderate difficulty, it’s a steep, narrow shingle path a lot of the way and we saw 3 people slide and fall coming down. Google map doesn’t quite take you to the start of the walk. You need to drive into the reserve then you’ll see the start of the walk on your right.”
“Great local drive up to beach wth changing rooms plus 2 toilets. So handy.”
“Nice spot to chill for a bit. I actually saw a few eels and a large fish just standing in the steps”
“Thank you Chet and Steve of being a very good and lovely hosts. Very good stay, the room is cosy, clean and comfortable. They have small little pantry in the room itself - coffee, tea, water and a kettle to boil water. Toilet amenities are also provided. And I like the surrounding garden with planted apples, pears, plums, lavenders and so many others. Walking distance to the nearby cafes and restaurants, and 15km to the Christchurch international airport. As my flight is very early, so I don’t have chance to have the breakfast, which I really love to do it in my next visit again.”
“Amazing gardens. The rose garden is particularly beautiful.”
“Our dog Winston can’t wait to go to PAWS every week, he loves seeing the staff and his dog friends. We can’t speak more highly of our experience at PAWS.”
“We really enjoyed our time here. The fully fenced and secured play area is perfect for younger children, and the other areas have so much to explore. Our little one really enjoyed the water plays, and we ended spending more time than planned.”
“Easy 1500 odd steps or so. It's a great cardio but does have a few lookouts and waterfalls. Good fun but it's all stairs. Legs will get an workout. Summit views are amazing.”
“Great place to visit during the summer. Camping area available as well. For those who like to spend their days outdoors this place is suited for you. Neat nature walks and tracks and tunnels to explore. Also nice cold fresh water to swim in”
“Amazing place! The team here is so passionate about protecting NZ’s native wildlife, and the guided walks are first class. A must-visit if you want to see the beauty of our forests and learn how we can help protect them. I will be back in late spring for sure.”
“This garden is absolutely fabulous. With moving tree limbs and over sized things it’s definitely a step into a world of wonder. The door is very much the big attraction but a few other things looted around the gardens edges that are also over sized makes an equal photo opportunity also”
“This small island juts out into the sea and has a lovely, shaded walk out to the end. It used to be Leisure Island with a pool, games, rides, etc. but has been recognised as being a special place so is now free of that stuff and more formally called Moturiki. The views back to The Mount (Mauao) and the beach are amazing, especially on a sunny day.”
“Beautiful beach, great for a hot day swim. Also, very fresh air and not much rubbish”
“A truly wonderful experience for our family and especially for my Dad celebrating his 90th Birthday and the fact that 60 years ago he was a General Farm Hand on Summerlee Station which covered 5000 acres in and around the area of the Cape Kidnappers … Marcus our guide was so very knowledgeable and very entertaining and Sophie back at base was super helpful too … all in all a very ‘proud to be a Kiwi’ moment for us as well as being very proud of our home Village of Te Awanga :-)”
“Closed to cars except for the middle of the day so great for walks in groups and with prams. Lovely views over the beach and a viewpoint at the top.”
“Great place to visit! You can see wild sea lions with a nice view. Easy to get there, though to come up again.”
“I walk there in November, the smell of the sea mixed with the blooming flowers was amazing. Simple wild beach, loved it .”
“Beautiful walk along the beach. Perfect stroll for a clear afternoon.”
“A great evening seeing the penguins come ashore, socialise and settle into their nests in their natural environment. Complimented by the detailed knowledge and enthusiasm of the guides. We also very much enjoyed the nature drive from Dunedin stopping at a number of locations to see the spectacular views and many birds along the shoreline.”
