Believe it’s had a bit of a rebrand, but it is hands down the best sushi I’ve had in the country! The owners were so friendly, attentive and polite, above and beyond. Would rate 6 stars if I could.
Best sushi in NZ. OMG these guys should be running a top Japanese restaurant. This chef has very high Japanese chef credentials. Have a look what’s framed around the room. Everyone must go try their food. Any don’t forget the Miso soup….SO GOOD!!! Damn wish they were in Australia…..every time I visit Napier I will eat here. That’s a promise!!! They don’t have credit card so take cash or NZ EFTPOS only.
The owner is so friendly, very nice, polite Japanese people. The sushi is the only authentic food in New Zealand! You have to try eel and the prawns.
Literally the best sushi place I have ever been to. Hand made sushi to order! Made by a Japanese pro. Absolutely delicious and authentic. Small family owned business- we tipped towards their daughter’s education which felt good. We had a great chat to the owners who were so friendly and kind and interested in us. She gave us free hi chew and a hug each. After we left we even saw her chatting down the street to local kids and their dad. The customer service and friendliness is absolutely unmatched. We loved this place!!

Extremely good service. Had free samples of chicken and fried salmon skin. Everything looked like it was made with care and attention to detail. The sushi tasted delicious. The owner gave my daughters small origami cranes too
Absolutely amazing service!! The lady who owns the shop gave me and my friends some of the best customer service we’d ever received. She gave us a brief history of the main chef and offered samples and was very patient with us while we decided what we wanted. The quality of the food was amazing! You could tell effort was put in every piece. If I were to ever come back to Napier, I would come back for this shop alone.
I think Aozora is the best Sushi restaurant in New Zealand. The main Sushi chef Keizo Yamaguchi provides delicious authentic sushi everyday and Satomi Yamaguchi serves visitors in a friendly manner. When I visit last time many local peoples visited and buy their sushi for lunch .
