“Hisari Supermarket is one of the best Middle Eastern supermarkets on the North Shore. They stock a great range of Iranian, Turkish, and Arab goods, along with occasional Russian and Greek products. You’ll also find a few New Zealand-made items, but what really makes them stand out is their bakery—you can get fresh Turkish bread and other traditional breads straight from the oven, which I absolutely love. They also offer a great selection of olives, nuts at very reasonable prices, and some hard-to-find Middle Eastern essentials like kebab skewers, cow and goat feta, and much more. If you’re familiar with Middle Eastern or Mediterranean cuisine, this is definitely your go-to spot in the North Shore. The sellers are friendly and welcoming, especially Hisari himself, who always makes the experience more enjoyable. You’ll feel comfortable browsing and discovering new flavours. The store is well-stocked with a wide variety of items, though it’s worth keeping an eye on the expiry dates—some products may be close to or past their date, but they’re usually happy to offer a good discount if that’s the case. Overall, a fantastic spot for anyone who loves Middle Eastern or Mediterranean food and culture.”

“While out and about in South Auckland, we stumbled upon The Alexander Cafe, a hidden gem tucked away in an industrial-style area of Ōtara. From the outside, it’s unassuming, but step inside, and you’ll find a relaxed, welcoming spot that’s perfect for a coffee break. We only had time for drinks, but they did not disappoint. We ordered an Iced Coffee with caramel syrup (no cream) and a Dirty Chai (chai with a shot of espresso) — both were absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was laid-back, with great music that made it easy to unwind. There’s plenty of seating inside, plus outdoor options for those who prefer fresh air. “What a lovely surprise as the outside is so unassuming. Comfy atmosphere with gentle background music. The food is YUM!!. We had BLT and French Toast, hot chocolate and coffee. Beautiful presentation matched the great taste. The cabinet food looks devine, will need to come back for that.”
