“Louise and her team were amazing to deal with from start to finish. Nothing was too hard and she was on top of everything, kids had an amazing time, such a fantastic space for them and when they sat down to eat she sent all the adults outside and she looked after them so we could sit and eat too, worth every penny! Biggest complaint is the kids didn't want to leave at the end!”

    Space Place at Carter Observatory

    ★★★★☆ 4.6

“Shout out to our planetarium guide at the 8:30 show last night (Wednesday Dec 3). Greeted us when we arrived. Shared his genuine enthusiasm for the stars and the mission of Space Place. The exhibits space is small/medium, but the quality was quite high and captures the teenagers with us (no small feat!) with the right level of engagement and knowledge share. You can easily spend a couple hours with the planetarium show. I live in Los Angeles and while Griffith Observatory is quite famous, the exhibit quality for kids, teens and adults is superior if you take the time to read the material and enjoy the video/interactive set ups.”

“We took our two mokopuna to Adrenaline Forest today. The eldest has been a couple of times and was confident after his briefing to get started. The younger was less so but certainly gave it his best. They both succeeded and had a great time. My thanks to the staff who supported my mokos in particular but were attentive to all. Clear safety instructions showing exactly how to use the equipment; and just the right encouragement when one of my boys got stuck. A reminder of the basics and gentle but firm guidance from the ground. All the reassurance that was needed and our moko carried on again. No doubt the boys will be back and their koro and I will be happy to accompany them. Ngā mihi ki a koutou...”

“The Island Bay Marine Education Centre, also known as "The Bait House", is an interactive marine experience based in Island Bay on Wellington's south coast. As well as there being lots of different sea creatures on display (including a couple of octupuses, sea horses, crayfish, turtles, a grumpy blue cod to name a few) you can also handle starfish, sea cucumbers, sea anemones, crabs and other sea life found un the touch pools. There is far more inside than you would expect from the outside and the volunteers whi wirk there are very friendly and helpful. It is really reasonably priced ($5 for adults, $2 per child) and we were all entertained for ages. Really good fun and educational too. Definitely worth checking out with the family.”

“Great lookout with easy access and gorgeous views over Kapiti Coast and Kapiti Island. The forest loop track has lots of info boards which help to keep kids entertained while discovering the forest birds and insects. Upd. What I really like about this reserve is that every path is so different. There are heaps of hidden gems like giant totara or kid-size bench, weta boxes in the bush and cool look-outs. Hit the track and enjoy!”

    Kilbirnie Park

“Kilbirnie Park is a versatile and well-maintained green space in Wellington, perfect for both recreational activities and community events. The park boasts spacious fields that cater to a wide range of sports, including rugby, soccer, and cricket. These fields are regularly used by local clubs, schools, and casual players, making it a hub for sports enthusiasts of all ages. The park also includes an athletics track, which is ideal for runners and athletes looking to train. One of the standout features of Kilbirnie Park is its family-friendly environment. There’s a well-equipped playground that’s perfect for younger children, offering a safe and fun space for them to play. The park’s wide-open spaces also make it a great spot for picnics or leisurely walks. It’s dog-friendly, so many locals enjoy taking their pets for a stroll. The park’s location is very convenient, being close to Kilbirnie’s shopping area, bus routes, and other amenities. The nearby Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre is an added bonus for those looking to swim or relax after some outdoor activity. While the park is generally well-maintained, the fields can become a bit muddy during the rainy season. Overall, Kilbirnie Park is a fantastic community asset, offering something for everyone—whether you're there for sports, family time, or simply enjoying the outdoors.”

“The staff were so helpful and organized an upgrade that we weren't able to get online. Throughout our stay the service was outstanding from all the staff. They were all so lovely and professional. They made us feel so special. The hotel is beautiful with lovely decor. Our room was really nice with a lovely view out over the city. And of course there is the chocolate hour! A few tips. It is worth paying a little bit more to get a room with a view. Where the hotel is is a bit isolated with no shops or restaurants nearby. It is worth paying to have your car parked there. We enjoyed just staying and eating at the hotel and only left once during our stay. The only low point was the bathroom door. Because it slid outside the door opening, there were huge gaps so you could hear everything!”
