Zealandia is such a nice park with such a knowledgeable and enthusiastic rangers and caretakers working there. They are happy to guide you and explain you every detail. The park has several hiking paths to stroll around. There are lots of birds and reptiles as well! It’s a great place to get out and away from the city Wellington. According to the ranger we spoke, the park was a hydro power station with a huge water reservoir and that big dam. The area was because of the risk for earthquakes turned into a wildlife sanctuary. It is surrounded by a fence to prevent possums, weasels and other (non-native) animals from entering, so that native birds like the kiwi, takahe and hihi can survive and flourish here. It’s bloody serious to keep the sanctuary safe and secure. It’s funny to see how the kea’s eat and how smart they are to access their food and how their food is protected for trespassing birds. The visitor center is nice to visit. We bought quite some souvenirs there.

Well worth a visit. Lots of birds, great informative signage, beautiful bush. Good place to visit if you don't have time to do any bush walking - gives you a great taste of it! Also, the Cafe is excellent! Great coffee and really lovely food

This is a must-see destination for your family vacation, especially if you're bringing small children. You'll be right in the wilderness, where you'll hear and see a variety of unique birds native to New Zealand. Tuatara, one of New Zealand's unique reptiles, can also be seen in abundance here. The trails are also enjoyable, with some easy and others challenging. It's a great place to bring the family on holiday.

Today’s 10:00 am day tour was amazing. Our guide was very knowledgeable about birds and plants, and I learned a lot from her. I also had a really great time after the tourβ€”I walked as much of the track as possible to see more places. The area is quite big, and I would love to come back one day with my family. 10/10, highly recommend!

An incredible and peaceful walk through nature. Exploring the eco sanctuary at dusk felt magical the sounds, the birds, and the beautiful surroundings made it such a memorable evening. We did the tour call Zealandia by Twilight. Learning about Zealandia’s mission to restore Wellington’s wildlife and bring native species back to the region made the experience even more meaningful. Our guide Sofia was amazing and knowledgeable and everything felt so calm and special. We even ended the night with a cup of delicious kawakawa tea the perfect way to wrap up the evening.

Awesome experience toured and as a reserve to just walk around. Highly recommend getting the night time tickets if you are going to stay there two days. You get the night tour where you can see the nocturnal wild life, and then stop by during the day after to walk around at your own leisure to see anything else. The night tour tickets include the day tickets for tomorrow as well.

What a magical place! We saw so many different birds, and just listening to them sing was wonderful. The walking path immerses you into the forest so you're surrounded by the bird calls. We went in winter and it was still incredibly lush and active. We skipped the guided tour and were still able to identify almost every bird on our map. Highly recommend! The cafe and gift store are lovely too.

What an amazing spot! We loved the hike, even in the winter weatherβ€”and saw so many bird friends. And a reptile! Our family went on the electric boat ride. That guide was knowledgeable and helpful in understanding the complexities of running this place!! I would highly recommend a visit. Had we been there in time we’d have taken a guided tour. As it was, we felt lucky to see what we did and what a respite from conventional sight seeing! If I were a local I’d be there every week, for sure. Thanks for what you’re doing in providing sanctuary for these lovely friends. Keep up the good work.

A little pricey but worth visiting. Lots of easy walks and some harder trails for the fitter folk. The view from the dam (with the winds) is quite breathtaking. The cafe isn’t very impressive food-wise but a pretty good gift shop and rather accessibility-friendly activity for the day. We spent 2-2.5hours here, possibly would’ve been longer if we weren’t on a schedule.
