“We stayed in Franza Farm for a couple of days and the amount of warmth and hospitality we received was simply amazing. Our entire family felt so at home and we really would like to thank Sako and Andrew for being such great hosts. We have stayed in a few B&Bs before and Franza Farm is easily the best one we have stayed at! Special shout out to the friendly farm animals as well :)”

“We took the one hour wildlife cruise from Wellers Rock. The guide was very knowledgeable about the birds and other wildlife, their lifecycle, nesting and lots of other information. We saw albatross, little penguins and a couple of seals. They have jackets and binoculars that you can use. Great cruise, really enjoyed it.”

“A great evening seeing the penguins come ashore, socialise and settle into their nests in their natural environment. Complimented by the detailed knowledge and enthusiasm of the guides. We also very much enjoyed the nature drive from Dunedin stopping at a number of locations to see the spectacular views and many birds along the shoreline.”

“This is a unique time capsule and an example of very clever late 19th/early 20th century innovations in domestic architecture/technology. Absolutely fascinating and guides were encyclopedic in their knowledge. Even the family history was attention grabbing. Everybody in our group was impressed with this place. 6 (or 7) out of 5 stars.”

    Penguin Place

“Incredible work by the OPERA! During our tour they explained us how they started it and they work towards the conservation of penguins and andemic wildlife in general. It goes from replanting trees to having a rehabilitation center for yellow eyed penguins. It is a great location if you want to spot little blue penguins, fur seals and sea lions without bothering them. And because of the rehabilitation center you have the chance to be close to yellow eyed penguins as well.”

    The Animal Ark Dunedin

    ★★★★☆ 4.4

“We have had so much fun here over the years that Animal Ark has been open, my kids love it and it’s it’s been wonderful to bring them somewhere to meet animals outside of our very grumpy old cat. The animals are always in great condition and happily pottering along waiting for some snacks. Owners/staff are really friendly, always explain the rules really simply and clearly to the kids. We’ve made so many cool memories here and I’m really grateful for that.”

    Royal Albatross Centre

    ★★★★☆ 4.4
    Closed

“You can visit the world's only mainland colony of Royal Albatross at the tip of the Otago Peninsula in Dunedin, New Zealand. Small guided tours to a glassed hide allows viewing of some of the nesting albatross. To protect the albatross from human disturbance, the headland is not publicly accessible. You can see adults in flight with their three metre wingspans as they glide around the headland. The centre is free to enter but tours are charged. Uneven terrain, lot of walking. Toilets available. Cafes available on site. Before the walkabout tour, you are given a demonstration/lecture about the birds and the work of the centre. Popular with tourists. Wear comfy shoes, take water, wear hat, sunscreen. Parking is easy. Amazing place to visit. Great place for photography.”

“We loved this tour. Darren our guide was so knowledgeable and passionate. Perry the owner also was very passionate and friendly. The scenery and wildlife were just wow. Their commitment to conservation is inspiring the little buggies are a fun way to get around and splashing through the mud was fun and we didn’t even get messy. The property and scenery is stunning. We saw a lot of seals, birdlife and the little blue penguins up close without touching or disturbing their habitat. Really highly recommend taking this tour and while there grab yourself a New Zealand made gift also and the coffee and muffins were very good.”
