Did the Meerkat Close Encounter and was incredible. Such an interactive experience with very knowledgeable keepers. A great zoo to support which contributes to conservation efforts and animal well-being.

A small zoo, with some enclosures still needing an update, but some animals that aren't seen in other NZ zoos. Absolutely adored the snow leopard who came out to show off to the crowd. The central cafΓ© "bananas" is too small with a very limited selection of food that we had to wait around for a long time to eat at, perhaps a buzzer would be a better idea as it was very crowded in the food area with everyone waiting for orders. The cafe at the entrance is much more relaxing and had more on the menu. Note food is very expensive so make sure you budget for it or pack a picnic. It would have been nice to see a bit more te reo MΔori used in signs around the zoo, other than for toilets and rubbish bins. Overall a lovely day out.

Fantastic day watching all the animals relax in their own worlds. It was a treat to see the tiger so close, even came up to the window and the otters are always a joy. The staff are friendly, and have expert knowledge on the animals. I even saw one staff member volunteer to help push a wheelchair bound guest around while her husband took pictures, like their own personal tour guide. Would recommend going, especially if you love animals. The cafe food can a bit expensive, but is still very tasty

The zoo may be nice for kids, but for adults it was average. We saw a giraffe, a kangaroo, two Tasmanian devils who seemed more disappointed in their lives, a big rooster and a pig. The rest had to be hidden or put to sleep, no luck...

Beautiful walk and love seeing the animals. The zoo is well themed, we love that effort put into asia/africa/australia. We also do homeschool education talks here twice a year and they're great. 3 stars because the animals enclosures are small. As much as I love seeing exotic creatures, I always feel a bit sad and wish they'd spend more on extending room for current animals rather than building new enclosures for more variety.

The animals are great but the kids would love it just for the play areas. It's a long day on the feet. A pushchair is a good option for carrying bags and jackets. They have a cafe but queues can be massive. Anyone can eat a packed lunch anywhere on the grounds

Absolutely amazing! Way better than Auckland Zoo. Realistic pricing for entry and encounters. We chose the zoo on a whim and am so glad we did. All areas were close enough to get a decent view of the animals but also at a safe distance for them. All the staff were super friendly and happy to answer all our questions even while they were getting on with their jobs and day. So many interactive activities along the way. We were so pleased with the Lemur encounter, Cam shared so much of his knowledge and experience with us and answered all our questions, even took so many photos for us that we ran out of storage lol.

I donβt think the free shuttle from the hospital is promoted enough. Very convenient if taking public transport. I basically went to the βkeeperβs talksβ which was more likely to have the animals come to where you could see them on a cold, wet day. Also I did the black and white lemur experience. So. Soft.

Had a great time exploring the zoo. Went on a weekday and it wasnβt crowded. So we could walk around at our leisure. Nice cafe at the front too. Highly recommend purchasing an experience online - but make sure you do in advance as many book out quickly. Mum gifted me a Lemur experience which was wonderful - four people can meet the two lemurs in their enclosure. The Guide was lovely and spoke so fondly about the Lemur.

We went on a Wednesday start of spring. The sun was out but it was still cold and windy. there weren't many people visiting . The Zoo is set on an incline. There's no clear route to follow so there's alot of walking up and down hills. Not ideal for wheelchairs. Quite a steep walk for toddlers and Mums pushing strollers. Alot of enclosures under construction and limited animals to view. Don't think it was worth the entry price $27. The Banana Cafe was closed. The old Kiosk is now a reptile display. The whole atmosphere is depressing. There's nothing enjoyable about it. Even the staff look miserable. Go to Auckland Zoo it's very serene, well maintained, great cafeteria food, the animals look content in their home environment, the staff friendly, informative and encourage questions. Much nicer experience for the family.
