Very nice place to visit on your way. Lots of birds to see, very green, you can feed the ducks and the eels (at 2:00 PM).

First class nature reserve staffed by knowledgeable folks. Visited on a gloomy, damp day as we were passing through. A great combination of walking through the forest, a brilliant lookout hide and some specimen birds including Kaka, Kea and we even managed to see a Kiwi. Then we got to feed the eels! Great place, highly recommended!

Such a lovely day out, so many interesting birds and knowledgeable friendly volunteers. Great place to take a picnic and spend a few hours. Feeding time with the eels is fascinating. I loved feeding the ducks and the sweet ducklings, the gecko and spending time in with the chatty kea!

Comfortable, quiet and beautiful environment, with a great atmosphere with the sounds of birds and ducks, a good place for children to learn new things. Not suitable for dogs, as there are a lot of ducks. Two toilets there. The ducks are so welcoming, just like they are witnessing people enjoying the scenery and birds, and witnessing people having fun here. The ducks are so cute.

What a unique and enjoyable staycation in regional Wellington! Theo’s cottage was well appointed and equipped with everything we needed including treats :) we had the whole reserve to ourselves at night and early morning which was truly amazing. The staff, wildlife and surroundings were of high quality and I highly recommend the kiwi encounter, eel feeding, bird talk and accommodation. Thanks for hosting us this weekend team.

This place is well worth a visit! An extremely affordable family day out - half the price of the zoo, Staglands, Zealandia... Bring a packed lunch and have a picnic! The kids absolutely loved it when a bird landed on my shoulder! The staff are friendly and helpful too!

Wonderful spot for seeing NZ birds and a Kiwi exhibit experience as well. Terrific staff!! Truly friendly, knowledgeable and just plain wonderful. Highly recommend visiting here and spending some time with the 'winged' locals!

Lovely setting, very well presented. Great to see so many tuatara. The ducks were super friendly, loved to eat out of my hand and some enjoyed a cuddle to boot.
