“Was our go to Chinese food spot while we visited Auckland for a couple of weeks. Food was tasty and the shop is clean. Seemed a bit pricey at first but after eating around the city it seemed quite reasonable with the portions we were getting. Would recommend.”
“Great value for money!! $12 for 12 wontons and 2 potato fritter!!! Fat and juicy wontons Fr. best takeaways in ellerslie deserves more business. Go to Friday night dinner.”
“Got food through Uber Eats today and everything was incredible! Top notch food. We ordered the fried potato and chicken and it had a really good amount of spice in it. The fried pork tenderloin was crispy and flavorful. Then the seafood with fishcakes was also delicious. Highly recommend.”
“I’ve never left a rating on the internet before but for these guys I’ve had to finally log in and leave some feedback. I dont know whether it’s the good service, fair price, great tasting food or the generous portions but these guys would put any local burger joint or Chinese takeaway out of business if everybody knew about this place. Wouldnt surprise me if the prices went up soon, I dont know how they make a profit on some of their food, especially the burgers!! Very good food, very nice people :)”
“Simply the best Chinese food - all the dishes you normally get at your average Chinese take out but restaurant quality! Lovely people - very friendly and happy. And although we haven’t dined in yet, the restaurant side atmosphere is great. You won’t be disappointed.”
“The people were friendly and patient. I have 2 small kids and I generally get a very "annoyed" vibe when they are rowdy and I did NOT get that at all. I love it. The food is fantastic. My family and I will most certainly be back.”
“Love the sweet and sour pork here - the picese are crispy while soaked in the glaze. Chips are just rightly crisp outside and soft inside. They know how to manage expectations and give wait times that vary with the waiting line (15 minutes for me vs 20 minutes for the customer 2 orders after)”
“This is the BEST duck I ever had in my life, I’m a roasted duck searcher everytime I’m dining out from home and my father is a Chinese chef too, the chef in this place remember me him so much. There are seats to eat in and he does also massive take aways, the price is cheap compared to the portions. Really tasty meals and we stayed three days in Wellington going there at least once a day to eat his food. Super suggested! P.s. He may not super chatty like other restaurant owners but you can tell how much passion and love he put in what he does. He knows what to do if you have special request! Give it a try ✨”
“Crumbed fish & 1/2 scoop of chips, my standard order. This photo is a Fish burger, 1/2 scoop chips & a Spring roll. Very tasty food. Friendly, family run business, lovely service. Great neighbourhood chippy.”
“Everything was splendid. Well cooked. The staff were all great. The steamed fish was so fresh and taste was great. Didn't have small change for tip when paying :( hope this compensates”
“Love this restaurant. Friendly staff and yum food. We love the duck pancakes and crispy eggplant!”
“The happiest, most welcoming, and excited people I have ever met. My entire family left with a warm, happy feeling, like spending time with extended family. To top it off, the food is great, and the portions plenty, just like eating with family.”
“It's close by so we eat here a lot... I can say it is consistently really good!! Fresh, tasty food, love the Asian meals but the classic fish n chips is delicious too. These guys are nailing it for a take away spot! Great prices, always fast, always tasty with big servings. Can't resist getting one of their amazing home made spring rolls every single time!!!”
“This has been our go to place for many years and food has always been consistent as the owners have not changed. Our favourites are the deep fried chicken wings, hainanese chicken rice, hokkien char and combination fried noodle. Owners are friendly and are always greeted with a smile. The decor is pretty simple but tidy and clean. Parking is ample however does get busy during the weekends.”
“The dumplings were very good, what stood out was the chilly oil. Very polite staff, patiently took our order of multiple things .. Small place, mostly seems to be a take away oriented place but there is still some place to sit and eat.”
“Fish and chips is very good. Chips are crisp outside and fluffy inside, just the way they should be, and more consistently excellent than some hotels and cafes can manage. The Asian meals are ok, although fried rice was outstanding, generous portions and enough "wok breath" (where the rice has been exposed to sufficient heat in a hot wok long enough so it tastes like fried rice, not just rice warmed in a wok). Service is fine for a takeaway, efficient and polite, can't fairly expect anything more. Make sure your order is repeated back to you to avoid mistakes, especially over the phone, as it's a noisy environment.”
“I ordered the crispy duck via Uber eats, not what I was expecting when it arrived and was battered duck. But wow it was so good and the sauce that came with it amazing. Considering that Uber was having issues getting a delivery driver the food arrived piping hot and juicy. Will be going to get a meal in restaurant sometime soon”
“Besr large crumb fillet here. Will travel the hill just for fish n chips. Chinese food amazing as well.”
“I ordered some food from uber eats iv never had anything from here before but my family love trying new places to eat every Friday this place was absolutely delicious and hot and fresh and the portions sizes are very generous you will not be disappointed my whole family loved everything we got we highly recommend Mei's takeaways”
“Really good portion and tasty food, good portion to price”
“I have been going to Hungs takeaways for many years. One of the best Vietnamese and Chines takeaways in Christchurch.”
“Delicious and very satisfying food. Wonderful flavours and atmosphere that make one feel like they are in China. Highly recommended. Vegan and vegetarian are catered for, although limited. But hey, what is here is worth coming for.”
“My wife and I are visiting New Zealand from the States on our honeymoon and chose this place for dinner following recommendations we found on Reddit. We ordered the “Trust the Chef” prix fixe option with some mocktails and were absolutely floored by how good it was. We ended up with eight courses: prawn toast, pork wonton, mouthwatering chicken, a xiaolongbao and shumai each, crispy roasted duck in curry, stir fried oyster mushrooms, green beans in XO sauce and tiramisu for dessert. Every course was absolutely delicious, and I particularly loved the prawn toast and the roast duck. The portion sizes were also massive- we ended up with two takeaway boxes and could probably have saved more if we paced ourselves properly. Midnight Shanghai showed us a spectacular meal and I hope to visit them again someday!”
“Not being from Christchurch we wanted some Chinese and found this place which we decided to try. A little on the pricey side but we really enjoyed our dishes, honey bbq pork is delicious, great sweet and sour pork, satay chicken, combination fried rice and singpore noodles. Would come back so highly recommend.”
“Came here for the 3rd time in about 2 months for a dine in meal. The service is always excellent and the food top notch. Never had a bad time, the owner is always smiling and enjoying giving his customers the best experience. Plus he makes these awesome artworks out of vegetables.”
“Very clean and tidy and the bluff oysters were to die for also the fish. Non greasy and batter not too heavy.”
Springs Rd Takeaways leans into a classic fish‑and‑chips approach with tidy execution. Value feels fair for the quality. Portions are generous yet well judged. Eggs land on point and toast keeps its crunch.
At Hard Wok Express, the menu stays classic fish‑and‑chips and no‑fuss. Fish lands crisp with light batter and chips stay tidy. The team keeps things friendly and organised. Serve sizes show solid value.
Miss Peppercorn 花椒小姐 favours a pan‑Asian comfort mix with clear flavours. Value feels fair for the quality. Portions are generous yet well judged. Front‑of‑house runs with calm, helpful energy.
“We celebrated valentine's day there last night. Service was very good. Felt very spoiled with the free chocolate covered strawberries & box of chocolates. Thank you for making our evening so special.”
