βAn interesting and enjoyable way to explore Napier, especially if you have limited time available. We booked our excursion through the ship that we were cruising on, the tour operator picked us up near the ship's gangway, and returned us there with plenty of time to spare before our scheduled sailing time. The tour is operated by a father and son team, who also constructed the "train" which transports it's passengers around the Napier CBD and surrounding areas. The son drives the "locomotive" (a modified agricultural tractor), and provides commentary about the history of Napier, with an emphasis on the 1931 earthquake which largely destroyed the city, and the subsequent rebuilding effort, which resulted in most of the buildings being designed in the Art Deco style. His delivery style includes a great deal of dry humour.β
βFun day. Bikes were excellent with baskets so you can easily carry water etc. lots of vineyards close by. If you buy wine in selected winery they will be picked and bring back to the bike stationβ¦a very nice touch.β
βThank you Greg for such a wonderful afternoon. You are such a great guide. Peter and I had a great time visiting 4 wineries and drinking very tasty wines. We met wonderful people from around the world. I always find such encounters interesting because the first few minutes are usually pretty formal with hellos, where are you from... and after having a few glasses of wine, we are like old friends having wonderful chats, laughing and we could not stop chatting. The glue to a wonderful tour is definitely Greg. You made us feel extremely relaxed, comfortable and the wineries were fantastic. In conclusion, if you are thinking about going for a wine tour... JUST GO ! Grape Escape is highly rrecommended. Peter & Hong (Malaysia) 3rd December 12pmβ
βWe did the Sip, Cycle, Soak (self-guided) package and it was honestly the highlight of our Hawkeβs Bay trip! The day started with a fresh, delicious breakfast at The Bach CafΓ©, then we picked up our e-bikes. The team was so friendly and had everything ready to go. The ride itself was stunningβeasy to navigate, with beautiful scenery the whole way and plenty of great spots to stop along the trail. We finished with a soak at Ocean Spa, which was the perfect way to unwind after a day of cycling. Such a fun, seamless experience. Would do it again in a heartbeat! Highly recommend!β

βAn absolutely fantastic day This was a last minute booking as we arrived into Napier a day earlier than expected What a lucky result Don's knowledge is off the scale and his enthusiasm was infectious I have visited many wineries in the past but to be guided through the whole process was at a new level. His choices of wineries and his interaction throughout was something special Thanks Don for an education and a fabulous day with some lovely others guests. Highly recommend.β

βMy wife and I came to Napier for a βWine holidayβ to visit the vineyards in the local area. We chose 415 because of its high reviews on google and trip advisorβ¦ It was awesome, the rooms have been beautifully renovated and very warm when it was only 1 degree outside. The location was great, close to restaurants and easy to find on the main beach road. Our hosts Tom & Esther were great company helping us find the vineyards we wanted to visit and guide us away from some we didnβt know were closed. Cooked a great breakfast too!β

βA very small little model railroad tucked up in the hills. Nice for Kids to see how steam engines work, even if they are 1/100 scale. Amazingly a one horsepower steam engine can pull a bunch of carriages with some very large people of size on them.β

βThe new park (post cyclone Gabrielle) opens April 6th 2024 and is accessed via Waipunga road, off SH5 Esk Valley. Turn into Waipunga road, cross the bridge then turn right into the first forestry road, and follow this to the carpark. No tracks remain in the Mill Block off SH2.β
βWe did the guided walking tour around Napierβs art deco buildings run by a volunteer from the Art Deco Trust. You need to pre book your places on the tour. It was easy walking, went for about an hour and a half, they provide you with a head set so you can listen to your guide. Great stories, wonderful insights about the city, especially the earthquake history. Iβd highly recommend the tour.β
